It's been a few days, I assume everyone is ready for the time skip to just as the siv is starting? If not, too bad X3 <3 beware the text wall
Devarsi nodded, thanking the prince for allowing him leave. He started off down the hill, feeling the rising of testosterone in his blood. The siv was approaching and soon the skirmishes would begin. The day he announced the opening of the season, he would be defending not only his harem, but also his status as well. There was also a strange feeling in the air. As though something big was coming soon, but he dismissed the feeling as a part of his hormone rise. He disappeared into the darkness thinking of the coming season with both excitement and anxiety.
~~~ Time Skip ~~~
Once again, Devarsi stood on the hill top. He stood tall, ears set forward, listening to the waiting crowd below. His expression set and determined. He was about to deliver a message that the herd had been waiting months for and he felt eyes on him as he waited for just the right moment. "The time is here." His voice was strong and sure. "Siv has finally arrived." He paused for a moment, letting the news sink in before following with the traditional reminder. "We are not a suppressive herd, my brothers. If a female wishes not to follow you, you are forbidden to force her. Remember this well." As much as he loved to have as many does as possible following him, he knew that this unwritten law was the one that allowed those lucky enough to find love, to pair off. "Fight well my brothers and good luck to you all" With that, he concluded his short announcement and descended back into the herd. Feeling very pleased with himself he practically pranced off towards where he knew a certain doe would be waiting for him.
Forest watched from the edge of the herd. The siv had always been a wonderful time for her. She enjoyed watching the matches an the feeling of love and admiration from the young does was as sweet as the wildflowers. Not to mention that soon there would be new kids in the herd. She sighed happily as the prime finished his speech and headed towards the stream to get a cool drink.
Blossom had just woken up, and her muscles felt the need to be stretched at the arrival of a new sun. Devarsi stood at the hill top and seemed to have an announcement, as his face had a more determined look than usual crossed his face. She went to join the masses, wondering what was happening, her ears perked up to make sure she didn't miss something important as the prime spoke.
Siv... It seems that it is finally that time again. Devi seems to be in a particularly good mood about it, she thought with a chuckle, as the prime seemed to be walking on clouds after he said his speech. She looked around and saw many males and females speaking excitedly about the come of season, and her ears flattened slightly in self awareness. She looked at her hind paw and saw the flowery, delicate pattern that made her so different to the others and she sighed.
A small conversation sprout in her mind as she remembered telling Forest that maybe this year, but she knew that the odds of that happening were very low. She slowly backed away from the multitude and decided to look for the blooming sprouts that were her favorite meal, hoping to distract her mind with something.
Silently, invisibly, Secretariat wandered through the herd as it stood amassed, reading the emotions of the crowd. He figured none of the females would really care to have a nobody as a mate, especially a ram as invisible as he, so he kept his hopes low, his Unknown form keeping the hormones at bay- after all, blood doesn't flow through a ghost. He watched the ewe that called herself Cassiopoeia as she slunk away, no doubt off to hide herself from Aussie, possibly with her elusive little friend that she so often stayed with. He noticed Rannoch was already missing, possibly off to hide himself as well. He figured the other ram had the same idea, to stay hidden in hopes of not letting himself down later on.
An hour of this, though, and he was sick of it, returning to his usual, living self and, with a sigh, readying himself to join the skirmishes. He didn't really have any ewe in mind, but he figured anyone that would accept a nobody like himself would be fine by him. And, if not, he could always find Lazuli and fight him to get rid of the ridiculous urge to battle.
(I haven't seen anyone interested in breeding against him, but if you'd like to, PM me. =) Otherwise, he'll go fight Laz offthread.)
The Siv. Threonine listened to Devarsi speak of the Siv, and though his face remained relatively blank, he felt a hole of dispair forming in his gut. As the Prince, he felt it would be, naturally, a good idea to fight. He wanted to fight, had the urge as much as anyone else, but who to go for? He'd always had a problem with that, if he didn't know any particular does to fight for, he would not fight. Threonine swallowed his worries, trying to soak up the confidence the Prime was showing. But he couldn't just pretend forever, the Siv was really coming... His immediate thoughts drifted to Stargazer and MilkyWay. He'd been the one to bring them to the herd, perhaps he could fight for one of them. Perhaps... But he knew he'd have to ask them. With their starry black fur they were sure to produce attractive young to any male of any coat color. Though, he wasn't particularly interested in them, they were friends, he didn't really feel lust towards either of them, and he didn't care that much about colors anyway. My fur is dark, white, and blue, I would do better to find a lighter colored female. He thought, But if I can't, maybe one of the twins could be a last resort, if they're even willing.
'Siv is here.' though Lavantia, brushing it off as swiftly as the though had come. Many of the male in the herd were attractive but she didn't have anyone in mind at the moment. Talahasi came to mind but he was to haughty for her and she didn't think they would make a good pair. She leaned down and ate more grass.
Talahasi cleaned his coat, Siv had finally arrived but he didn't see any particular ewes he wished to fight for. They were all beautiful in their own. He saw a white Goe backing away from the rest. he seemed distressed for some reason and he wanted to know why so he walked over to where she was.
Blossom chewed on the delicate buds she had found, her tail wagging at the idea of getting some so early, as morning dew only bettered the flavor for her. As she looked up from her find, she saw one of the stags approaching her. Talahasi they called him, but she had never had much to tell the spotted male.
Her eyes swiveled the area, making sure there were no other goennecs around her. Sure enough, the more busy chatter was still in the big group, although at a second glance she saw that some of the males looked discouraged or unfazed by the arrival of siv.
Once she noticed that there was no avoiding Talahasi without looking rude or rejecting, she blinked at him and swallowed the small buds, not certain of what to say, as was always the case with her.
As Talahasi walked up to her he noticed her look up like a deer caught in the headlights. He back up a little confused at her reaction then realized he had probably scared her. He tried to look as nonthreatening as possible. "Hey why do you look so down?" he asked hoping it was the right question.
Ears swiveled forward as he spoke. Her head gave a curious tilt to the side and she then looked around, pointing with her muzzle at the rest of the herd.
"I am not down, do not worry. I think I am just not that fazed by the news of the siv arriving. You seem to be pretty unfazed as well," she mentioned, giving him a curious look and trying to steer the conversation away from her. "Shouldn't you be out looking for potential mates?" she added, knowing that Talahasi had his eye on the golden doe for some time now, and she was surprised he had not made a move to assure the others that she belonged in his harem.
As Devi Pranced off toward his goal, he noticed Talahasi and Blossom chatting a ways off. He stopped dead, she was one of the females he had intended to ask, but now was not the time to barge in. He would look rude for doing so and he suspected that a certain someone would not be pleased with not being the first to be brought into his harem, officially anyway. He swallowed his frustration with a scowl and continued on his way. If Talahasi was indeed recruiting Blossom, he'd spar with the other ram later. He hadn't expected to be able to gain a large harem without competition, but he'd thought that the sparring would at least hold off for a while.
Queen was the only one who attended the sermon. Alabaster was snuggled back into the cave, hiding away from the Siv once more. Year after year he punished himself like this, babbling to his master that he was just waiting to find the perfect girl. Every time Ala said those foolish words, Queen couldn't help but giggle. A perfect girl? There was no such thing. Omni/Caedes were out too, probably keeping her young white friend company. The unusual winged rams didn't get the hormone burst that everybody else did; they had little interest in kids anyway, and had not been approached by a ewe wishing for a baby, so they had exempted themselves once again.
But Queen... the brilliant red doe already had plans. She studied Devi as he spoke, watching how his fur caught in the pale light and how pride and egotistical lust shone in his gaze. Although she stood all the way across the valley, she could hear his words. Queen did not come towards him; instead, she watched as he thread his way throughout the herd, a faint grin twisting her mouth as she noticed he seemed either disappointed or frustrated with somebody. She was patient; she had played this game many times before. Queen knew better then to walk up to him. If she pushed the relationship, he would tire of her faster, and she had practically guaranteed Alabaster a foal to raise this season, so she bided her time and merely, patiently, waited.
"I should but right now I see none I am interested in. I stand corrected though the one I'm interested in shuns me and appears to like someone else so for now I'm uninterested." he said appearing uninterested. He looked over at the golden doe that had turned him so bluntly down then back at the white goe. "I'm surprised none have asked you yet, you are quite a beauty." he said bluntly.
(switching views)
Lia felt eyes on her and saw that Talahasi had been looking at her again but now was talking to a pretty white doe she knew was named Blossom. She wasn't jealous but wondered if Talahasi was asking Blossom to be in his harem. Though she doubted the pretty goe would go for someone as preppy as Talahasi. She knew already that if he asked her she was going to say no because he was to stuck on himself for her taste.
(XD Lia doesn't like tala very much.)
Blossom's head gave a sympathetic tilt at Talahasi as he spoke about his female problems. She opened her mouth slightly to answer but was cut short by the stag as he continued to speak. Her fur prickled uncomfortably at the mention of her own status. She was never among the most looked at does. Her own flowery looking coat made stags look at does that would produce better looking offspring, especially if said offspring turned out to be a male. I can already picture the look of horror on a stag were he to have a son with a delicate floral pattern...
Blossom shook her head at the thought and turned her gaze back at Tala. "I am certain that there are females more interested in making an impression than myself. Besides, being in a harem would force me to make more chatter than I like," she responded a bit awkwardly, ignoring the beauty part he had commented, as she did the few times this was mentioned.
(Man, I can't go away from an occasion like this XD)
Monsoon had came back and forth during the last few days, escaping the herd to explore the surroundings, going further everytime. But now was the time of the Siv, and for nothing the grinning Goennec would have missed that. He hadn't been lucky in the past few years, since even though he was tall and strong, his energy had scared a few away. Plus he knew he wasn't the prettiest ram around.
This year though, the urge to fight for a ewe was stronger than the past ones and he was determined to find a mate. Monsoon already had a particular doe in mind. He spotted Lavantia glowing coat and trotted toward her.
"Good morning, pretty lady. What are you doing alone here? I would have thought a beautiful ewe like you would have attract dozens of male." he said in a teasing tone. He took a look around, then into Lavantia's eyes. "I would like to be the first suitor to ask for your lovely person, Lavantia."
As Devarsi approached the meeting place, he spotted Queen waiting for him. His heart gave an excited leap and his head began to swim with anticipation. Finally, he was getting to start his harem, finally. Lately it was all he had been able to think about. His happy step became a mix of a prance and a strut. He held his longer-than-average tail up, letting it swish back and forth, and swiveled his ears forward, fixating them in her direction. A grin spread across his face. He came to stop directly in front of her. "So Queen, The siv has finally come" He laced his voice in what he assumed would be seduction, but he came across as more silly than anything. His next sentence came out even worse as he stumbled through the words awkwardly. "You where promised the first place in my harem . . . . so . . . I'm here to . . . make it official" He looked away sheepishly and let his tail fall, realizing how foolish he sounded.
Forest finished her drink and stepped into the water. She reveled in the cool water running over her hooves and between the digits of her paws. She stooped down and rolled once in the water, letting the smooth river rocks brush against her coat, loosening the dirt and cleaning her fur. She got up and stepped out giving her coat a quick shake. Life was good for an elder in these times, but she was beginning to feel a bit lonely. The excitement of the approaching siv had all the young goennecs busy.
Where Queen had been given a disturbed mind and an insane outlook from childhood, she had also been taught by her abusive mother how to stroke an ego. She smiled when Devi approached, playing the perfect expression of innocence and excitement. A deep surprise shined in her eyes that pretended to betray her gratitude at him keeping to his promise and coming to her first. A master of expression disguise in her own body, it looked for a moment that the crimson painted doe was just another lovesick, foolish little girl. When he spoke, she laughed, and it was a light, lilting sound. It was not cruel, and was intended not to hurt his feelings from his stuttering in the second sentence. She winked at him, mild eyes pleased.
"You flatter me, my Prime." She purred softly, ducking her head and letting her silky forelock fall across her face. Just another shot of pure shy origins. Queen was being completely embarrassed her, giving him an option of something else to speak to in the conversation; her awkwardness. She was totally giving him the reins now. Stroking his ego in one of her favorite ways possible; giving a ram dominance. For some reason, males fell over each other to be the top dog. Queen found it incredibly useful it situations like this.
Svartur watched the herd as the siv began. His green eyes were filled with some sort of sorrow as he thought about how he had to wait yet another year for it to begin again. He barely knew anyone so he wasnt desired, and Garnet was probably galavanting off with some male. He shook his small head side to side slowly and looked away, small tears forming in his eyes. He looked around for Garnet, though he knew she wasnt there, and of course, he didnt find her. He sighed and lay down, frowning.
Garnet smiled and trotted forwards. Devarsi spoke of the siv and she smiled, feeling her heart flutter. She looked at all the males and females and she suddenly felt nervous...very nervous. She quivered and looked in awe at everyone, before pawing the ground. She didnt really speak to the other Goennecs and so she doubted that anyone would choose her. She kept a smile on her face and just watched as the others of the herd told their loves about their feelings. It warmed her heart when the Goennec who spoke of their feelings was told that they were loved back. She grinned, looking away from the Prime and Queen and sitting down.
(sorry im taking so long)
Talahasi looked over at Lavantia again to see her talking to the male she had been with when he first saw her. He sighed in frustration he had been going to try again. He looked back at blossom, "Well I'm going to head out." He walks away and settles a little ways away watching the rest of the herd waiting for a doe that would accept him.
Lavantia was grazing when she felt someone watching her, she thought it was Talahasi again and looked up to see Monsoon walking over to her. She blushed when he called her pretty lady then focused on what he was asking her. (xD) He had asked her why she was alone and said he though she would have dozens of suiters by now, but it was his last question that made her blush. "Um.....I need a moment. " she said her brain frying. She knew the obvious answer should be yes because she doubted that any of the other males besides Talahasi would go for her, and even him she doubted because since she turned him down when they met he had be cold towards her.
(awwwwww sorry i couldnt help that. XD)
Blossom watched as Talahasi left, looking more down than he had when he had approached her. Way to go Blossom... she thought to herself, feeling guilty, thinking that she had somehow given the stag more grief than needed. Her attention turned towards the river, the nervousness of talking to one of the stags, especially one who tended to have a gait of importance like him, had made her a little thirsty. Not only that, but her pure white coat could use a nice cleaning, as it was starting to accumulate more dust than she liked.
Hooves leading the way towards the nearest source of water, she noticed Forest shaking her fur dry. She bowed her head lightly at the elder and gave an inward chuckle. It looks like I wasn't the only one who thought it was time for a bath. Dipping her head towards the river to take a drink, her mind wandered back to the siv. Somehow she had expected more enthusiasm, but it seemed like most of the other goennecs shared her doubts, or just weren't inclined to reproducing this year. Blossom wondered if the time of peace that had made their numbers grow was what was making this feeling that kids were unnecessary. Snorting into the water, she continued drinking, knowing this had nothing to do with.
Garnet trotted away from the heard, swiftly walking towards the water nearby. She saw an elder and a young Goennec drinking, and wondering if now was a good time to make friends, she came closer. She dipped her head to Forest and managed a smile, before looking at Blossom. "Hello," She said in an over-friendly way. She stepped back, feeling uncomfortable, and cleared her throat. "I'm...uhhh...Garnet. Whats your n-name?" She asked in a small voice. Her eyes were frightened and wide, and it was obvious she never really socialized. Her knees wobbled, and in a vain attempt to hide her nervousness, she smiled and dipped her head into the water, taking a long drink. When she lifted her head, she felt more confident. "Ahhh..."she sighed, grinning. "You here to hide from the siv too?" she asked, trying to make conversation.
Blossom heard a trembling voice and she looked up, seeing a dark caramel colored doe in front of her. The over friendliness in her voice made Blossom uneasy. Usually when someone was this friendly, they wanted something, or so she thought from further experience. She eyed the doe suspiciously as she drank water and looked up again.
On of her ears gave a small twitch as though if a fly had landed in an uncomfortable spot, her awkwardness evident. She looked over at Forest, waiting for the elder doe to speak first, as she preferred not doing so when in company of others. She couldn't help but wonder who this doe was. She smelled of Devi's herd, and she had obviously heard the announcement of the siv starting, but she had not seen her before, and if she had, she had forgotten her. Maybe her socialness levels are as high as mine... she thought, keeping quiet, the last droplets of water leaving her chin after her drink.
