Devarsi stood proud on the crest of the hill, surveying the herd below. He had worked hard for his chance to lead and he was eager to prove himself as worthy of his new position. As he looked out across the field they'd settled in, he couldn't help but notice how perfect life seemed at the moment. It was Spring and there was a flush of new lush growth to graze on. Small rodents where plentiful for those who grew tired of the vegetation. The herd was at peace, for the most part, and rival herds hadn't been seen for over a year. He was confident that he would have an easier first year than the previous Prime, but he was still wary. His predecessor had, however, chosen an excellent field for the herd. It was in a mountain valley surrounded by acres of sparse woodland. A river flowed nearby, bringing in cool water from the mountain springs. And the central hill made an excellent lookout post, which he liked to assign for himself.
Devi relaxed as his survey suggested peace was holding. He took one last look before laying down in the fresh grass to relax and wait.

Aussie walked slowly to the river, shaking his rear leg to rid himself of the sticker-burrs that he discovered in his wanderings in the woods. As he passed Celestina, his gait and posture changed radically, from frustrated to proud, ignoring the wince of pain that shook through him as he glided proudly, trying to impress her. Once out of her sight, he let out a piteous whimper under his breath, growling lowly as he attacked the pesky burrs with his teeth. Yelping as a particularly large one gets further entangled, he eventually gives up and continues moping off to the water, thirsty and in pain.
He sighed as he drank, the temperature of the water helping to soothe the small puncture marks on his tongue and gums, soon enough turning sideways to stick his hoof in the water.

The shadows slid up the hill behind their novice Prime like something liquid. Her muscles all moved in perfect sync, and she flowed up next to him without a clumsy slip or anything. In all honesty, she lived up to her name.
Queen lived her proud, regal head and looked sideways at Devi. Her stance was that of pure majesty; narrow shoulders brought comfortably forward, long, thick tail loose behind her. The wind tangled in her fur while the lucious sun brought highlights to her velvet pelt, brightening the flame-red hue of it. Tracking up her shoulder was the marks of variously sized hearts, and they shimmered under the heat of the day.
"Good day, Devi." The words purred out of her throat as she watched him, her deep, pure eyes the color of liquid obsidian. They were utterly fearless at speaking to her "official" leader on a friendly basis. Why Queen was speaking to the male at all was difficult to infer anyway.
As always, moments after her arrival her faithful servant appeared. The male padded up behind his personal queen in a less special way as her, merely wandering up behind her. He looked at Devi over her small figure and offered him the same bright-eyed smile he gave everybody.
Like a constant sunbeam on a rainy cloud, Alabaster successfully alleviated the mood of anybody he was around. Waiting for Queen to finish up her job here patiently, he glanced down around the herd and noticed absently the adventure of Aussie, a male he had always respected but never had much of a chance to speak to.
Furtively casting a glance at his master, he twitched his lengthy sterling tail and mulled over the thought of going down and speaking to the fellow. Even though it appeared Queen was not watching him, let alone even noticed he was there, he could see her attention pricked in the slightest of her ear turns in his direction. He sighed faintly to himself, casting the disappointment to the wind.

Threonine stood with his back to the others. He wasn't ignoring them, rather, keeping a look out. Since the death of his first female lover he'd been more cautious about everything. Especially now, being Prince was a duty he had never anticipated to land at his paws. For now his main concern was to try and proove Devarsi of his worth.
He flicked one white ear, swiveling it backwords to catch what the others were saying. He could tell Queen was talking with the Prime, Alabaster with them as well. He didn't understand Alabaster's devotion to Queen. Their personalities clashed in such a strange way. Though he had to admit that, while quite intimidating, Queen was attractive. He felt a bit sorry for the snow white male, the way he dogged behind her without hardly even being acknowledged.
Threonine couldn't seem to catch what it was they were saying though. He frowned, feeling it would be rude to creep closer in hopes of prying. Instead he set off at a steady gate towards the river, he hated the river. Everytime he saw moving water, he saw her drown. But this time something else distracted him. The faint scent of blood. Immediately more alert he quickened the pace, pushing off harder with his back hooves. "Aussie?" He slowed to a stop, his tail thumping against the hollow trunk of a dead tree. He tilted his head to the side in confusion, "Are you injured?"

Lavantia walked through the shallow water of the river, every once and awhile looking at her herd mates. She observed them from afar taking in her prime's power and her queen's majestic beauty. She kept walking the stream trying not to draw attention to herself. She finally got up the courage to go up and meet her herd mates. She had no idea how it would go but she was sure they would accept her.
She stopped on the grass below the hill and began grazing, every once and a while one of her ears would flick a sure sign she was still alert to any danger.

Aussie jumped, startled, and started shaking his burred-leg. "No, not really... I found myself a nice bush that decided to give me a little present. It's not bad, tangled more than anything." With a small growl of frustration with his situation, he gathered himself back onto shore, glaring lightly at the now wet, matted mess around his hoof.
"I tried getting it untangled, but it's a bit more thorny than I thought. I'd either stick my mouth or leg... or both. Stupid thing...." He huffed and pawed lightly at one just barely clinging to his fur, wincing when a thorn poked at his skin.
"I must look so, undeniably, pathetic. Taken down by something as mundane as a few sticker-burrs."

Devi continued to watch the herd, barely giving any notice as he acknowledged the two now beside him. Indeed it is, have you been well? Queen's calm intensity always gave him a strange feeling that grew stranger still when Alabaster was with her. The two where nothing alike and he wondered why Alabaster seemed to shadow her. Though what worried him most was her interest in him. He hadn't called for her, yet here she was, talking to him. What did she want? He hadn't the faintest.
He watched in interest as Threonine hurried toward the river where Aussie was drinking. He trusted that the new prince would be trying his best, but he knew that a good Prime always kept an eye out. So far the conversation seemed harmless from this distance so he turned his attention away to pull himself back up onto his feet beside his visitors

Standing alertly on the outskirts of the hill on which Devarsi, Queen, and Alabaster stood, Alaska's ears pricked at sounds in the daylight. Though she knew the Prime and Prince would most likely be keeping an eye out, she didn't trust the peacefulness entirely. Sighing when she spotted nothing, she turned her ice blue eyes back on the herd. Deciding it would be best not to interrupt the Prime at the moment, what with Queen speaking to him, Alaska turned to Threonine and Aussie. Speaking, her voice was slightly cool, not showing much emotion. She didn't like to betray her feelings, especially not around Goennecs she knew might find her foolish. "You seem to be having some trouble. Is there anything I can do to help?"
Her voice smooth as silk, but not showing anything about how she felt, the white and black female glanced up at Threonine and Aussie from under her lashes. Flicking her tail, she peered into the water at her reflection. The hard mask of black over her white body and cold blue eyes was harsher looking than she had intended, and she quickly grew softer. The faintest traction of a gaze on her pelt made Queen prickle and she glanced up, watching the Prince make his way proudly across the meadows below. She twitched one ear, watching his gait, calm and patient. There was not a flicker of anything negative that crossed her expression, for in the depths of her onyx eyes it was near impossible to read what she honestly felt.
His response brought her attention back to the ram standing beside her and she looked over at him once again, rubbing one forepaw into the cool soil below her and digging the digits into the mildly wet dirt. She seemed to take her time mulling over how to reply; obviously she had caught his retort and perhaps even his confusion at her presence there. Serene, she lifted her gaze back to his own. "Of course." Her answer was simplistic, undeniably so. "Any emergencies today?"
Listening to her odd small talk, Alabaster watched all the movement below him. The glint of a sharply colored pelt drew his immediate attention to the female that grazed below, standing alone in the valley. On a normal day when Queen allowed him off his leash for being on separate duties, he would have loped down and offered her some sort of company. As of now, however, he went where his queen went.
Glancing up once more at another glimmer of motion, he watched another familiar doe from the herd meander by, heading over to Aussie and Threonine. His feet remained glued to the ground but he cocked his head to one side, just the slightest of angles, to watch them. Honestly, he owed much more to Queen then he could explain, given even a full day and many lengthy hours. He recognized that many in the herd either distrusted him for being so close to the clearly insane female or thought he was off in his own brain for it.

Aussie whined quietly, ducking his head down in slight embarrassment. His voice low and mumbly, he tries to explain himself. "Lil' accident in the woods." He chuckled awkwardly, brushing a paw nervously in the forelock of his mane. Under normal conditions, he'd be fine with being in a crowd, but after being defeated so soundly as to complete frustration and some blood loss, and by something so simple, he was humiliated. If Celestina found out... he'd never be able to live with himself... unless she wanted sensitive. Did she? Or was she looking for a strong mate...? He didn't know anymore, the debate mulling over and over in his head as it had hundreds of times before.
Getting up, he tested his leg, hoping the pain had subsided and one burr would fall lose, but no luck. "Glorious. Go me." With a huff, he turned to glare childishly at the trees.
"... For failing."

He waited for her answer, wondering if maybe she was trying to start some kind of game. Though, the pause allowed his ego to take over and he thought to himself 'She must just be nervous. I am Prime after all' He smiled inwardly. The thought comforted him. Her response shook him from his thought. "No, not yet anyway. I think there may be some rain on the way though. You two should find a bit of cover before night falls, just to be safe" He looked at the sky as he said this. The clouds where low, but innocent enough. He figured there may be a drizzle at the worst, but the silence between the two wasn't something he felt comfortable with. Devi hoped that this prediction would shoo her away to get out of the non-existent rain or at least break the silence with a conversation. His interest shifted back to the Prince. Finding no panic there, he skimmed the herd again. The flush of confidence his ego had given him, fading away into a slight anxiety.

Threonine blinked once and threw his head back in a short throaty laugh. "Fail? You sound like the burr has given you a deadly disease." He stomped one back hoof on the ground, noteing that Aussie looked quite humiliated.
He turned to look at Alaska, instintively taking a little step away from the river, "Can you-" He paused, trying to hide the fact that he was startled by the coldness in her eyes. He blinked and they didn't seem so cold anymore *Maybe I was imagining it* he thought. "Can you get some honey? It might help loosen the burr a little, we are going to get that thing out."
He held his head up in a determined way, his black eyes staring at nothing, "You'd better not be giving up Aussie."

Monsoon appeared from a thick bush, dirty and full of scratch. He was holding in his mouth a pretty and delicate white flower. He had found this treasure on one of his little exploration of the valley's outskirts. As soon as the brave Goennec had seen the flower, he had thought of Forest Run. He had no love interest for her, but she had always been so nice to every member of the herd and he knew she would be the one that would appreciate the gift the most.
He took a look around, but he couldn't see her. He pouts. That's when he saw a new female amongst the herd. She had a beautiful purple mane and a golden color like Monsoon had never seen. He decided to go and greet her properly. He trotted to toward her and put the flower on the ground.
"Hi! I don't think I have ever seen your beautiful mane around here. I'm Monsoon, and you?"
(This isn't much, I'll do better in the next posts I promise).

"I'm not giving up. But this stupid thing... I feel like a moron. It's a burr. I should be able to get it out on my own or something. I'm supposed to be stronger than this, aren't I?" With a low snort, he stuck his nose back into the cool river and retrieving a mouthful, then turning to spray it at his leg. Upset, he started nibbling and pulling on the burrs, pulling out more of his own fur than anything else.
"This stupid thing...!" He winced as he crushed one between his teeth, pulling back and trying to get the fragments of the burr out of his mouth. "... Well, that's one out of the way. Kinda." He shook out his mane, getting some of his pride back.

Beside him, Queen lifted her smooth head and glanced at the sky, surveying the weight of the rainclouds. She quirked one ear, looked over at Alabaster as though sharing a brief, silent conversation with him. Shifting her weight on her back hooves, she turned her attention back to Devi with a curved, nearly wicked grin across her slim muzzle. "Would you care to take shelter with Alabaster and I from this...so-called rain?" It was obvious from the ringing in her throaty tone that she had caught on quite quickly to his bluff.
The mention of rain made Alabaster shiver somewhat and he moved closer to Queen, never touching but standing only mere inches apart. It was sort of a weird relationship, that was true; but the two had one unspoken rule that was never trespassed on, and that was not to touch. He looked on in mild interest as the herd came alive underfoot and knew in his bones that if rain was coming, it was only going to be a few splattering drops before passing again. Devi probably should have come up with a more clever excuse to buy his way out of unfocused Queen time.

Lavantia was surprised when a young ram with swirls and a dark mane came up to her with a flower in his mouth. He had sat it down and told her his name then asked for hers.
"My given name is Lavantia but you may call me Tia if you wish." she said shyly. She shuffled her paws to keep her attention focus on something other then the ram in front of her. She knew her reaction was rather out of character for her as she had always sounded gruff toward new comers.

Devi shifted uncomfortably and sighed inwardly 'She didn't buy it, you oaf' he thought irritably at himself 'of course she wouldn't buy it, you're no better at predicting weather than a tree stump.' He made sure to word his answer carefully "That's a very generous offer, but I'll have to decline." he steadied his voice for the next part. She was obviously onto him and he didn't want to betray another lie "I'll be doing a solo watch tonight. Rain or no rain." He tried to put some emphasis on 'solo' without sounding rude. He felt bad about trying to shoo her away, but she was distracting him and he wasn't about to blow his new status for some (possibly innocent, yet unsettling) conversation.
Forest sighed. The day had been a good one. Quieter than usual, but she was okay with that. It gave her time to wander the treeline and observe the various happenings within the herd. She liked to imagine herself as the other goennecs she saw. She imagined feeling strong and brave like the ram by the buttercup patch or sly and dainty like the doe grazing in the clovers. Her youth had left her years ago, but her imagination was as bright as ever. She had finally sat down by a fallen tree to watch the kids play. Watching them always gave her hope and a kind of excitement as she thought about what kind of goennecs they would become.

A wide smile appeared on the ram's face.
"Lavantia, that's such a pretty name to go with a pretty face" he said, his tone slighty flirty. "And there is no need to be so shy around me, I don't bite!" he added with a grin.
He took a quick look around the clearing and finally spotted Forest, at the treeline. But he couldn't leave Lavantia alone like that...
"Since you are new around him, I'll take on me to introduce you to the rest of the herd. Not everyone at the same time, don't worry. Follow me!"
He picked up the flower from the ground and trotted toward the elder. Wearing his eternal smile, he approached her and put the flower at her feet.
"Hi, Forest. I found this for you in the forest, I thought it would please you! I also bring a newcomer!" he said.

(we need to wake this up XD)
Forest snapped out of her daydream as Monsoon approached. 'he's got a new friend it seems' she thought to herself 'wonder if she likes the happy-go-lucky type' She looked at the flower laid before her. he was right, it did make her happy. Not just the flower itself, but the fact that he'd go out of his way to make an old goennec happy made her feel warm inside and a smile spread across her aging face. "It's lovely Monsoon" she said sweetly. "How did you know I wanted a white one?" Her eyes shifted again to the female beside him. She had an unusual color. She'd always liked unusual things and this newcomer definitely fit the bill. "What's your name deary?"

(Whoever wants to help him, can. xD)
Lazuli grazed lazily, his tail twitching with every noise that reached his ears. A simple thought ran through his mind, but was soon enough forgotten as an insect flew in front of him. With a bleat, he chased it, horns lowered, before smashing into a rock with a loud crack. He groaned and got up, just knowing the insults his brother would throw at him for looking so stupid. Dizzily, he wandered wherever his hooves might take him, blinking the stars out from in front of his eyes.
"Whoever put rock, much not happy." [Whoever put that rock there, I'm not happy with them.]
