(Starting fresh here. If we all decide to combine this with the old one later, I can do~ :U)
Scarlet horns brushed the low branches of a young tree. The ram sitting below, to whom the horns belonged, gave a great yawn, though far from bored, this was a yawn of exhaustion. Worry had kept him up for almost three days now as he spent much of his nights staring into the forest surrounding most of his herd's valley. The first night it was simply a bad feeling he'd had about it, even though he could see nothing. The second night, thin pillars of smoke beginning to trickle into the sky way off in the distant south. Now, as the sun rose on third day, he could see the smoke getting thicker. On top of this stress, he could feel the early signs of siv flowing in him. Soon, he and the other rams would all be preoccupied with the urge to gather their harems. If this new threat spread into his territory, at this point, his whole herd could be endangered or even wiped out if he didn't act. Thinking about this cleared the exhaustion from his mind and he rose to wander back up to his usual observing point beneath the large tree on his hill. Maybe sitting there, he'd be able to come up with some solid plan in case he needed to take action.
Sad attempt, I know, but it's something at least. Now go forth and write! :U

Takuo gave a long, refreshing stretch, his front paws digging into the soft, mossy ground. Already his horns had (finally!) grown almost fully in, and he was still getting used to them. It completely threw his balance off, being the late bloomer that he was, he was still somewhat small and had gotten his horns fully rather late, but he didn't mind.
However, despite this he hadn't grown out of his bubbly nature, and was still the happy, positive, string about two thousand words into one single sentence without even taking one little breath kid like always. "De-uhm, Prime?"
T ventured, ducking a bit, still unused to the formalities that seemed to come as a kid grew up, then brushed it off almost as soon as it had come. "Whasat?"
He gazed off into the distance, vibrant golden eyes flashing with a bit of nervousness. The thick haze that had slowly, slowly drifted closer unsettled him, making his fur prick and his mane ruffle, and he danced from paw to paw, hoof to hoof. "I saw it the other day and at first I was just like whoa, whasat? Cause I had never seen anything like it before cept for of course the clouds but they're not nearly that dark and foggy and scary, cept when it's about to thunder and rain rain rain except I really like the rain cause it's so cold and awesome but not nearly as great as snow but it gets really really cold and one time my mane froze straight up into spikes and another time I was thirsty and the creek got all solid and I had never ever ever ever seen it do that before so I thought I'd explore but then I remembered I was thirsty so I figured that it was water yesterday and so it'd still be like water 'cept of course...hard and stuff but it bit me sorta I dunno how but I licked it and my tonge got tttthtuck liii dthiiiis-"
he paused, demonstrating, then continued.
" And my tongue was sore all day and Kaze told me to rest but I really really really don't like resting and all the kids were too little to play with still and that's no fun and so I went off to explore cept I stayed away from the hard water cause it hurt."
He finished and flopped on the ground, his still-large ears perked, and a grin across his face, golden eyes shining.

There was something in the air that made Threonine's throat tickle. It was like a scent, a scent that seemed, bit by bit, determined to pollute the air with it's foulness. But in all his years the blue ram had never smelled smoke, and he did not know what it was, or why it occurred.
Supposedly other members of the herd must have noticed this as well. He eyed them with concern as he stood and trotted on. Was it something to be weary of? Too hard to tell. Too hard to know.
His eyes caught on some does in the distance, but he forced himself to look away. Perhaps Devarsi would know, or one of the elders. He spotted the dark ram sitting up on his hill, and began to approach. But for a moment he hesitated. Perhaps his thoughts were foolish. Weariness naturally engraved within his mind. The Siv was nearly upon them, and it was not exactly uncommon to feel strange before or during that time. Besides, the Prime was engaged right now. Shaking out his mane, he changed course and began pacing a little ways off, keeping his eyes trained firmly on the herd. Perhaps it would do him good to think more about the Siv. Despite the challenges it inspired, he always enjoyed the products, and had even made some half-attempts at remaining on good terms with his own offspring.

Tohru raised to her feet gracefully, gently shaking the dew and dust from her coat. The scent of smoke was on the air, and it made the young doe edgy. It was approaching her first siv and she wasn't sure what her future would hold. She could only hope she got in the harem of a gentle male. She looked around, her honey golden taking in the herd members around her. She saw her father, his proud head was up as he looked to the sky. She looked away then began grazing the grass where she stood.
She shook her head lightly, looking up again at the smoke that hadn't been visible a few days ago. 'I have a really bad feeling..." she sighed. She didn't think the smoke meant anything good.

Sec coughed, shaking out his mane as he returned from the Other Plane and rode out the deadening effects on his body and mental processes. He was very much aware of the presence of the acrid cloud, and the alien feeling in the air as it gradually thickened, and had taken due action - His brother and nieces had fled to the outskirts of Devi's territory, far enough to stay out of danger, but close enough for him to warn them to run further, if need be. He had wished Rannoch could have taken his son as well... but Seabiscuit had flat-out refused to go. He had also wanted Ford to flee, too... but the large ram had injured himself to the point of needing to stay with the rest of the herd. And Katili... well.
Glancing in the direction he'd left his son, he spotted him next to Ford's curled-up form. He'd left the pair together, to watch over the other... and they had followed his request, not that Ford, at least, had a choice; standing was incredibly painful for the injured ram. Oddly enough, Katili had joined them in a rare display of protectiveness over family; her bond with Ford was more of a priority than sulking and plotting, and her tolerance of Seabiscuit was based on fear of Sec's revenge if she harmed so much as a hair in his tail. Although, he supposed it helped that 'Biscuit was becoming less and less of a youngling every day, and was one of few rams that gave positive attention to the unhappy ewe.
Sec coughed again, bringing his thoughts away from family. Flicking his flaxen tail, he headed to the middle of the herd, watching the Prime and Prince out of the corners of his eyes, wondering if there was a way that he could help without letting his Plane-Crossing ability out. Gliding through the herd, he listened for any information, too preoccupied with gathering rumors and watching for signals to watch where he was going.
[If you couldn't guess, that's how I'm leaving Rann's girls for now. ^^; I'm working on bringing down a lot of my herd, RP-wise, but they're open for 1X1s on request. Hatter and his family, we can assume, are off with Laz doing cool things that no one really cares about. xD
Also, if anyone wants to be the one Sec runs into, be my guest. :3 I left him more or less open for that kind of interaction.]

Mercury awoke with a start. He had been sleeping carelessly by some rocks, but a terrible nightmare had come upon him. He looked around frantically, fearing for a moment that he was back 'home' in the dark and oppressive atmosphere of the city. He sighed deeply relief at feeling the grass beneath his hooves, and seeing others of his species around him, though they were rather far away form him at the moment.
He took another deep breath, but the smell of smoke seemed to stay. Cringing his nose, he shuddered again. It was real. Where it came from, he couldn't determine, and he was starting to get more and more nervous. Realizing that he was completely alone in the open, he looked around frantically and started to stomp at the ground.

Devi startled a bit as the youngster his foggy brain told him was Takuo interrupted his thoughts. The long jumble of words that followed the initial question threatened to shut down his mind completely, but, somehow, he managed to follow the bulk of it.
When the question finally ended, Devi was still unsure quite how to answer. Not because of the long-winded wording, but because he'd been asking himself the same question. The only answer he'd been able to come up with scared him. It would no doubt spread panic in the herd as well if he let it slip so he chose his words carefully.
"Something's changing over there, deep in the forest, Takuo." He began solemnly. "For now, it's merely a strange sight. If the wind blows the smoke this way, it'll burn our eyes and noses." He paused, hoping he wasn't revealing too much. "But, it will pass without harm."
He smiled a little at the youngster. Even with his habit of burying others in his words, it was hard to not like him. Usually, Devi would be much more lighthearted, but this lack of sleep and constant stress made his years feel like decades and even showing the affection was draining.
"Don't worry about it, Takuo. I'll be watching it." He finished, hoping this answer would satisfy.
"Good morning sunshine~"
Lu Ten nuzzled Forest lightly, attempting to rouse her from her sleep. She'd giggled and pushed him away earlier as he'd tried to wake her for a pre-dawn jog. Even in his old age, he liked to keep fit. Sometimes, she went with him, other days, she'd tease him and resolve herself back to sleep. On those days, he always returned at dawn with a gift. Today, It was a small golden fish, a 'Sun fish'. So called for the way they glint brilliantly in the light. Amazingly hard to catch and very tastey. He'd gotten lucky and surprised it when he'd stopped for a drink.
"What is it now, you old fool?" She cooed affectionately as she always did upon his return. "What offering have you brought today?"
She smiled slyly, eyes still closed.
"A little sun."
The old ram held it to her nose.
"A gift from the river."
Her eyes flew open. "A Sun fish!? You shouldn't have Lu, you really shouldn't!" But she was smiling broadly as he passed it to her.
She took it delicately, then carefully ripped it in half. Seeing the confused look on Lu Ten's face, she pushed one half towards him.
"A treat like this has to be shared, sweety." She said to him smiling "I won't take no for an answer" She finished, cutting him off as he was about to protest.
The old ram relented, knowing she'd made up her mind and laid down beside her. Together they ate, watching the sun rise, doing their best to ignore the smoke rising with it. Such things where not for the elderly to worry about. They trusted their prime. He would protect them.

A dual colored mane ruffled in the morning air as ebony black horns lifted as their carrier turned his head to the sky, a restless tick on his front left paw making the doe beside him look up with anger. Noticing his behavior at the doe's glare, the male simply resolved to giving a somewhat goofy smile in apology, stopping his paw from further movement.
"Something on your mind, Ander?" the doe asked, an eyebrow raised in a skeptical look, used to the serious face his brother usually sported, but not to the restlessness his body was reflecting.
"The herd... it seems to be restless today for some reason. Even f- .. the Prime looks worried," he answered, his ears flat as he looked up at Devarsi's usual spot, where he could be seen talking to the bubbly 'T', as he was used to calling him, looking at a spot where a light, gray cloud could barely be seen in the horizon. As the yearling doe gave him a casual shrug in response, Ander's face turned to a frown. "Aren't you concerned at all, Sihir?" he asked, a somewhat reproachful look on his face.
"Now why would I need to get concerned when you do that plenty for the two of us?" she asked, a smirk in her face. As his face remained serious, however, Sihir sighed, knowing her brother got worked up when he saw others in the herd tense. "Look, maybe it's just the Siv doing this to them. You know Blossom said it was approaching soon," she added, hoping to appease her brother.
The creases of worry slowly fading from his young face, Ander nodded, then a look of panic crossed his face.
"Blossom! Oh no, we are late for morning grazing!" he moaned, hating to keep her waiting, knowing how much she loved eating the fresh blossoming buds covered in the dew only the early morning brought.
Yearlings already, the twins had slowly become more and more independent, leaving their mother's side for most of the day, despite not separating from each other for the majority of the time, they still had some time before they completely left their mother's side, looking up to her for guidance and affection from time to time. Morning grazing was one of these times, one that they both always looked forward to, although Sihir was much more reluctant to admitting it than her brother. At his words, the herd's tension became nothing more than small morning talk to them as they headed straight to the area near the creek and forest they by now had nicknamed 'Blossom's Spot'.

T gazed over at the smoky haze as the Prime spoke, his ears flattening a bit, then he slowly nodded. He looked at his front pws for a moment, for one of the first times in his life lost for words, then looked up as the Prime comforted him, and he chanced a smile. "Thanks, Dev- Prime! Besides," he began playfully, crouching as if bracing himself against a nonexistent enemy, "If that...the...er...thingy, comes even close I'll scare it away!" He gave a slight buck, grinning, his striking golden eyes shining.
Kaze blinked open his eyes, feeling the warmth of the sun beaming on his fur. He yawned, then shifted, laying his head on his front hooves, fighting back another yawn. The long, feathery blades of grass were lazily swaying in the breeze; and the watery blue sky was dotted with puffy white clouds and....something else far in the distance, which he studied for a moment. It didn't look like anything he had ever seen before, a wispy, dark grey but not at all like the fluffy white clouds, or even heavy stormclouds that promised rain. He gazed up as a sparrow fluttered through the air, and he felt flooded with excitement, it was a new day, a new adventure! And he also realized Siv was nearing. He thought of Alaska and little Typhoon, who had grown up into a strong, energetic yearling, like all the other kids. It was a good year, and the herd was healthy and strong, and the season was full of promise and life. The last snow had begun to melt off the trees and the warm sun had emerged from the clouds, and new growth had pushed bravely through the soil. The creek had melted and was teeming with life; cascading water splashed, rippling the reflections and shadows of darting fish and algae clung to the smooth river stones. Life was good. He laughed as he saw Ander and Sihir, Blossom's little kids who weren't so little anymore nearby, and called out a greeting, stretching and shaking out his mane and fur. "Hey Ander, Sihir!"

In his hurry to get to his mother, Ander didn't notice the stag's morning greeting. His green sibling, however, quickly heard her name, her senses sharper when her mind was on something else as she was accustomed to having Blossom calling her in a reprimanding voice whenever she was plotting something, usually against Todd, Dew's cowardly kid. Magenta colored eyes turned and met Kaze's and a grin spread on the young doe's face. While much older than they were, Kaze was as easy to talk to as any of the other kids, something the mischievous female was fond of.
"Morning, Kaze!" she called back in greeting.
Looking behind him, hearing Sihir's voice calling out, Ander quickly spotted Kaze nearby, and his ear twitched in embarrassment for not having noticed him sooner. Calling out a greeting, Ander turned back to his morning routine, only to spot a young white doe with green flecks on her mane padding towards them, a gentle look on her purple eyes. His ears flattening, Ander realized they had probably missed their usual morning grazing, and a heavy sensation in his stomach began to settle, as though if a rock had landed squarely at the pit of it, regretting not having remembered sooner and having skipped their morning together for the first time since they had been born. Lowering his face shamefully, he waited for a sound scolding that never came, and as he turned his head up again, he saw only his mother's face with a rather quizzical and amused expression on her face.
"I am sorry we left you alone this morning," he muttered, shifting his paws awkwardly.
A glimmer of laughter crossing her eyes, Blossom shook her head, nuzzling the yearling's cheek affectionately.
"You are growing up, my sweet Ander. I am amazed you manage to accompany me so often at all with the handful of trouble your sister must be giving you every morning," she responded in her usual soft voice.
"Hey! I don-"
"Good morning, Kaze," Blossom cut off Sihir, a twinkle in her eyes as she did so, her head slightly bowed in her usual greeting manner.

Devi grinned, pushing away his worry and exhaustion at seeing T's reaction. His upbeat, optimistic, though naive, attitude beginning to revitalize Devarsi. It was funny how contagious his good mood and energy were.
"If it comes near, you and me can have a good go at it, yeah?" He gave the young ram a playful push with his horns.
"Hey! Secretariat!" Oli called over to the ram she now noticed wandering nearby. Her mother had always been wary of him. He was odd and strangely seemed to disappear when no one was paying attention. 'Now don't mess with him, Olympia. He might be trouble.' Endie would say to her every time she showed any interest. Being rebellious as she was, though, Oli had grown to quite like him. He was mysterious and mystery was always useful for mischief. She would never admit to idolizing him, but she would be lying to say she wouldn't jump at the chance to know how he does it.
The wispy young doe jogged casually (or as casually as she could manage) over to him. Normally, she'd make small talk and try to hint at getting tips on 'mystery', but today, she had something more serious on her mind. If anyone beside the Prime and Prince knew what was going on with the strange clouds, she was willing to bet it was him.

Sec paused, his ears flicking back at the sound of his name, turning as Oli reached him. His naturally wary expression flicked to a small smile as he registered just who was calling him. "Well, hello, there. And how are you, Oli?" A ram of few words, he had never really minded the youth of the herd, their curiosity amusing and heartwarming for him - after all, he had never really felt that his secret would be welcome in circles outside of close genetics, and he trusted them to keep quiet. For someone to have positive interest... it was different and very much welcome.
As a distant, entirely unrelated afterthought he attributed to the approaching Siv, he quietly wondered how well Oli and Seabiscuit would get along, given the chance. But that was something he would have to discuss with his son, at a later time. It was far too early for such silliness.
((Blame my silly ADD brain for that last part. xD It really did want to pair those two together, for no reason other than, and I quote, "OOHPRETTY." -Facedesk-))

Wearily, Ali trudged forward through the sparse foliage, keenly aware of her two companions' progress behind her. She was cold and wet and muddy, and not at all happy. Tiger, with his excellent sense of smell, had assured her that they were moving away from the ominous smoke and its source, but she was still worried. It was her duty as 'prime' of their tiny herd to keep the two younger rams safe, and things were only getting harder and harder. They were all exhausted, and needed to rest. Badly. She did not want to seek out help and shelter, but they needed it, if only temporarily. Tiger had insisted that there was a herd in this area, and loosely judging by their progress so far, they would be coming across it soon. The bedraggled doe was honestly quite nervous about the encounter, but she knew that Tiger and Neu were both excited, and that was enough to keep her from turning back.
Neurosis walked behind Ali, and with much higher hopes. They were heading away from the smoke and towards a large herd. Unlike the mud-covered doe before him, Neu's fastidious attention to his appearance had helped his coat stay much cleaner, which he couldn't help but be proud of. The beginnings of the siv were already stirring inside of him, and while neither of his current companins were by any means obtainable, there might be a chance that he could finally get a doe [or ram] in the herd that they would be soon be coming across. The ram stopped for a moment to help Tiger scramble over a log, nuzzling his adoptive son in encouragement. "You're doing great, Tiger," he said; breezy, high voice a far cry from the gravely mutterings of the doe in front of him. Not matter how hard she tried, he wouldn't let her drag his spirits down.
"Yes. Indeed. Thanks," The smaller ram absently replied, shaking the drying mud from his fur and letting his friend guide him forward again with a soft, well-groomed tail. Tiger's sense of smell was much more perceptive than that of his companions, and he really couldn't help but be on-edge. While they were definently heading away from a peculiar but ominous scent, it had not yet diminished enough for him to be at ease. In his inner world painted by things not seen, a simple smell was so much more than just a simple smell. Stumbling forward in his strange, rocking gait, the Affected ram tried to resist feeling either excitement or trepidation. His strengths lay in his intelligence and rational way of thinking, and he couldn't afford to let his judgement be clouded if they were to be coming across another herd soon.

Alec gave a final lick to his fur, satisfied. The Siv was coming soon enough, and he had to look at his best. He didn't like this time of the year, with all the fighting. But he too felt the urge to mate, and even if knew the change were he would be harem-less this year again, he had to at least try. One day, he would too have his chance to mate.
He found out that it was quite hard to be tidy lately, though. Like many member of the herd, he had seen the great dark cloud raising above the tree tops, and since it had appeared, he always had this feeling of uncleanliness clinging to his skin. The smell was terrible too, but there wasn't much to do about it.
He stood up and stretch lazily, and glanced at the discovered area where the herd lived. Not so far from him, Alec noticed another Goennec who looked somewhat nervous. He trotted towards him and finally recognized Mercury.
"Is something wrong?" he said gently, tilting his head to the side. He knew Mercury probably didn't understand him, but he could at least try to comfort him.

Delacroix sniffed the ground, delicately picking her way over the sticks and leaves on the ground. The smell in the air bothered her, but she trusted the Prime enough to be calm for now, and continued her daily tasks, such as foraging, as normal.
However... it wasn't often that she heard voices on this route....
Quietly, Del approached the sources of the voices, and cocked her head at the strange sight she came across. What are three strangers doing in these woods? She thought, watching their progress through the undergrowth. As they steadily left her behind, she wandered closer, accidentally stepping on a twig.
"Oh... Hello, there... Where're three strangers such as yourselves goin'?"

"Morning Blossom!"
Kaze returned, dipping his head first to Sihir, then Ander, and last their mother Blossom as she approached from her morning grazing.
"What are you guys up to?" Kaze asked, vibrant green eyes shining warmly. He settled down on a slight rise, feeling the warm sun on his fur and the light breeze ruffle his bright, spiky white mane, then grinned playfully.
"Yeah!"
Takuo cheered, bouncing from paw to paw, from hoof to hoof, his striking golden eyes shining with excitement. He giggled and jumped, stumbling at first as the Prime gave him a playful nudge with his horns, and he grinned, bouncing, and pawed the ground dramatically. He bounded forward, lowering his newly grown in horns playfully, then skidded on a loose pebble hidden among the lush, feathery spring grasses, then giggled, scrambling back up with a shake.

At the sound of a twig snapping, Ali simply growled, annoyed at the clumsiness of her companions. At the sound of a doe's voice, however, she whirled around, crashing into Neu and then further shoving him out of her way. A basic assesment that even Tiger could have made told her that the doe didn't appear to be particuarly threatening ... but yet ... she was tall. Really tall. Ali had grown used to having to look up slightly to meet Neu's eyes, but this was just ridiculous. And for her, that was reason enough to be not pleased with this encounter. Trying to stand up just a little taller; the muddy, dishelved doe crept forward a step, glaring at the other. She did not like this new creature. She did not like her at all. "That's none of your-"
"Hello," a much more soothing, calm voice interrupted. Tiger tried to turn to face the new doe, smiling tentatively in his own funny manner. If she was dangerous, Ali and Neu were right next to him. And if she wasn't, it would definently be better for Ali not to talk to her. "We really aren't headed anywhere in particular at the moment; just away from something strange I smelled. And hopefully towards a herd that I scented around this area. Are you part of that herd?" he asked, curious. Finding this herd could turn out to be so much easier than Ali was making it.
After he was done stumbling to the side and glaring at Ali, Neu trotted back over and nodded to the new doe. Protectively standing over Tiger, he chose to elaborate on his "son's" words. "We're not from this area," he explained, "and we mean you no harm." He couldn't help but smirk as Ali's tail lashed rapidly. He would be hearing about his choice of words later, definently. "We're quite tired, and are hoping to find safety with the herd that this kid insists is around here."

Delacroix took a half step back at the tan ewe's violent reaction, her head raising a little bit with awareness. Her tension ebbed, though, as the other two members of the other party intervened. "I'm from the herd, yes... though safety in this herd... might be an overstatement, considering some of the types we have here," she started, her mind on the viciousness of Katili, despite the fact that the ewe was... preoccupied... and the still-approaching Danger. "Our Prime is quite welcoming, though, and you might just find safety under his watch."
Del smiled as she considered the trio, her eyes lingering on the first ewe carefully, sizing her threat level. She wasn't really one for fighting - that was more of Aussie's thing - but she would defend herself if it came to that.

Sitting down next to Kaze, Blossom looked expectantly at her two yearlings, not being able to help but wonder just what exactly had kept them that morning. While it was true that they were turning more independent, she still couldn't help but get a little sad at the thought that soon she would probably lose their company as they entered adulthood. She couldn't help but notice Ander give Sihir a preoccupied look that Sihir simply shrugged off, an exasperated look on her face.
"Is something on your mind?" she asked, her face creasing as a concerned look crossed her delicate features.
Turning to her mother, Sihir snorted in a dismissive sort of way.
"Ander has been wondering why the herd seems so tense lately. We saw the Prime looking up to the forest this morning while he was talking to T. He looked pretty serious, too, and Ander was too cowardly to go ask him if something was wrong," she finished in an unconcerned tone.
"I was NOT too cowardly, he just looked busy... It's not like the Prime would like to be bothered by a pair of kids anyways," Ander spat, an undignified look in his eyes as Sihir smirked in his direction. "Besides, he would let us know if there was something wrong, wouldn't he?"
Blossom's ears twitched, unused to having the twins refer to Devi as 'Prime', but knowing she would have to get used to it eventually. Shaking the thought out of her mind, however, she simply nodded, trying to reassure her worrisome kid that there was nothing wrong.
"I am sure he would, isn't that right, Kaze?" she asked, turning her purple gaze on the gray ram beside her. "Especially with the Siv so close by. He wouldn't want to endanger the mating season."

"Of course,"
Kaze agreed, perking his ears at Blossom's question and answering with a nod.
"It's really nothing to worry about, I'm sure," He encouraged, giving Ander a gentle nudge with his horns. "Besides,"
he began, a playful, mischevious look shining in his emerald eyes.
"I'm sure if there was any danger, we wouldn't have to worry, especially with you two. You're so brave and fierce-it'd be so intimidated by you it'd never come back again! " He continued, acting out the story as he went, swishing his tail, then grinned.
"Besides, I'm sure the Prime wouldn't mind, and you don't have to worry." He finished, swishing his tail and gazing at the twins, eyes shining with warmth.
