Kaze smiled at Alaska's answer, somewhat relieved that--at least, he thought--she hadn't noticed his dissa...awkwardness. Yeah, awkwardness. Kaze tried to convince himself to just forget it, and twitched his ear, and concentrated instead on the doe's words. "Ha, I'm sure." he joked, grinning, though he wasn't completely serious. I mean, maybe it was true--Kaze didn't think of himself as being bad-looking, he thought he looked pretty awesome. But he still wasn't sure about the whole harem issue, and didn't have a big in-your-face ego like some rams did. Kaze nodded at Alaska's answer, agreeing with her. "Yeah," he replied, thinking for a moment. "I think that he'll probably be careful about who he chooses to challenge; unless he really felt he needed to. But he might be," he agreed, "Especially if h's looking for a...'large' harem." He grinned, and his eyes shone with amusement for a moment. "Well, right now he's got me beat in the whole 'harem', thing." He was joking, of course--he didn't intend to have a harem, no. He did hope that someday, maybe this Siv, maybe another, that he would find a mate--one he loved. He wasn't, however, saying that he would back down if the Prime...or the Prince challenged him for one reason or another. He would return the challenge, and he wouldn't go easy on them--it would be a true fight. He listened quietly to Kila and Alaska's words, and nodded; he understood--the Siv was kind of odd, honestly, if he thought about it for awhile. Some decisions were made on pure impulse--for good, or not so good; or well-thought out; all goennecs were different. He swished his tail, and felt the warm sun soak into his grey fur, warming him, and the breeze ruffle his mane slightly.

"If harems didn't exist... most of you probably wouldn't either," came Blossom's voice. She had been quiet the entire conversation, but it angered her how they seemed to be above procreating. "I hated being treated like an object, but harems are not like that. You don't go into them for love, or even for the male. You go into them to deliver young, to ensure that more little goennecs will be running the pastures long after we are gone." This said, Blossom got up, her own hormones starting to get a little more pronounced as time passed. She looked over at the group and bowed her head, not interested in the conversation anymore, as her own need to have kids had been evident since her second year. "Excuse me," she muttered, then padded over to where Sam and Devi stood, her ears flattened as she kept her pace slow, wondering what was supposed to happen now.

"What is wrong with only one ram and doe being together?" Kila called after Blossom. "They are capable of producing kids too, yes?" Kila shook her head, her fur seeming to bristle-but then again, maybe it was the wind.
Concentrating again on Alaska and Kaze, Kila agreed "Siv is a odd time. Never before have I wanted a mate, but.." she paused, searching for the right words. "..but a small part of me is telling me I should." Looking up from the ground, yet again embaressment surrounded her. Why on earth am I talking about my feelings to a ram? [/center]

"I don't have anything against harems." Kaze replied, feeling somewhat annoyed. "I understand it. But just because it's natural doesn't mean that every single goennec has to plan out their life the same old way...grow up, be in or form a harem, repeat, repeat, and maybe someday down the line have a mate." He wasn't sure if this was exactly true, but he stuck by it, his opinion was strong. Kaze twitched his ear, slightly ticked off--though he was usually carefree and easygoing, he was just frustrated...perhaps it was his hormones, perhaps something else; he didn't know. Maybe I just don't want to fall into the same old flow, be exactly the same as every other goennec ram out there. I don't think harems are wrong, I completely understand. I just...don't know. He glanced at the white doe's departure, nodding to her, as to be polite. He was still somewhat frustrated by this, though he just blew it off, not wanting to think about such things anymore. Siv was a weird time. Half of his mind tugging for him to form a harem, to have kids--the other half not wanting to agree. His hormones pushed him for option one, yet he was still unsure. Maybe he wouldn't participate in that year's Siv, after all. {Trust me, if I had another male or something, he wouldn't act like this--he'd have a harem. It's just Kaze, his personality, honestly. X3}

As they neared the camp, Nixx had reassured her for about the tenth time. He didn't want her to worry much and promised her that he would stay near camp as much as he could stand it with her. The only reason he wouldn't be there was because of all the commotion during the Siv and the aggresive rams. All that compared to where he could be on the trail. He promised her over and over that he would be careful. Once they reached their little spot, he looked her in the eye and searched them. He made sure she was stable, but inside he knew he was only trying to pass time. He got stable himself, thinking he could smoothly talk, but as usual, in tight situations, he blurted it out, "Are you ready to have kids? Or I m-mean make them..." He couldn't make eye-contact after that though, too embarassed. Usual Nixx-ey.

Wandering back into the main group, her tail flicking in irritation, Alithea tried to brush the encounters with that annoying ram, Talahasi, out of her mind. Part of her--the old, primeval part that was based on instinct rather than logical thought--had told her to immediately throw herself at his feet and swoon over him. After all, this was the Siv, he was a ram and she was a doe. Traditions dictated that she should swoon over the strongest ram and beg him to have kids with her, but no. Just no. Alithea was above that type of behaviour now; she didn't want to be controlled by her instincts. What was the fun of just being a hormone-crazy beast? Exactly, none. ... besides, he wasn't even the strongest by far. How many 'strong rams' spent all their time grooming?
In her reverie, she hadn't noticed that she was about to bump into the Prince before, well, bumping into him. Stumbling back a few steps, the small doe blinked and looked up, her dark green eyes sparkling with surprise. Alithea's body immediately went into a submissive, non-threatening posture--ears drooped, tail down and head slightly lowered before she shook off the instinct and straightened up. "Sorry," the small doe murmured, embarrassment coating her words.

Frustrated, Secretariat kicked his fish carcass, gave a respectful nod to Mercury, and dashed off into the tall grass. He needed a female. The basic need of every animal burned inside of him, and there was only one female he'd seen in this insane heat... and he couldn't stop himself from wanting her. Temporarily forgetting about hiding in his phantomlike form, he followed her, his mane bristling. The thought that she might belong to someone else flitted into his mind, but he shoved it away. He'd fight. He was born to fight. He was a ram, damnit, and he wasn't born with two heavy horns on his head for decoration! He watched her carefully, each male she even looked at coming across in his head as a potential opponent.

Devarsi lay there, stunned. For a second he couldn't believe Sam had actually beaten him. Rolling himself over so that he was lying with he feet beneath him, he stared at the ground in front of him in wide-eyed shock and humiliation. What would the herd think? Their Prime defeated by another. Then he remembered why he was fighting at all and his stomach dropped. He'd lost Blossom as well. Slowly he picked himself up and seeing Blossom near, quickly turned away. He already preferred to not think about her. Politely, as was custom, he bowed to the winner, Sam. "You've won so I leave and wish you well." The standard response. Without another word, he looked around for a moment, looking for a friendly face. Spotting Forest Run nearby, he made a beeline for the old doe. When a goennec needed a pick-me-up, elders were always the best to talk to.
The final move had amazed Forest. She would never have expected Sam to be smart enough to make such a move. She had been sure Devi would win, but surprises often come when you least expect them. The minute he began to head towards her, she stepped forward to meet him. She could tell he was upset. Today had not been a good one for the ram. Rejection, a challenge from is oldest friend, losing to that friend, and having to give up on one of the does he'd considered to be 'one of the good ones'. The two walked in silence out of the crowd. She'd get him to talk later. Right now he looked like he just needed a good nap.
also, this since I posted it at the zoo, but I believe most of you went to bed before you saw it. X)
Near - Humans all have the same human instincts, but also their own personalities. Instincts =/= personalities The instinct to make a harem and procreate does not mean that he has to be like Devi personality-wise. All animals are individuals, yet they share the same urges and instincts. C:
Rain - The feel and actions as a whole are more high-school than individual actions. I feel like Sam and Devi where two Rams fighting in the middle of a school yard. XD The siv has nothing to do with love except in the case of mates so I have no idea why the rams are all being choosy and the females looking for rams they love. It just doesn't sound like something herd animals do. When the siv is over, all the harems will disperse and the rams and does will live without even thinking about each other in that way, that's just how animals are. o3o
Not trying to be mean or rude or anything, it's just, they aren't acting like animals right now. Rams should be trying to win females and does should be looking for the most suitable sire for a kid as in one that would produce healthy, strong kids. It's very hard to simulate an actual animal mating season when they're all thinking the way a human would rather than following the animal urges that drive the mating season. If they all just looked for love, there would be no mating season, it would be just like human life. Animals only get the urge to mate during their season and only the urge to mate, not find love. X) *studies animal behavior*

Garnet sighed and walked back to Kaze in time to hear his response. She smiled warmly and chuckled. “So, you are the male who’s worrying the other males by talking to all the does,” She murmured, her eyes twinkling mischievously. She giggled and sat down, listening to the rest of his conversation. “So, no does in your harem yet? No harem at all? That’s a real shame. Why, if I weren’t in Devi’s harem, I’d…” She trailed off, feeling herself blush the colour of a tomato. Of course, because her fur was a deep red colour, it wasn’t visible, for which she was thankful for. She shuffled her paws awkwardly, giggling before clearing her throat. She looked up, grinning stupidly, and listened for Kaze’s reply, wondering if she’d embarrassed him too. She listened as the conversation began to turn into heated bickering and turned away, her eyes widening as she saw Secretariat running down the hill. She cleared her throat and trotted towards Devi, nudging him. “I believe you may have another battle ahead of you,” She murmured, looking back at Sec again worriedly.

((SORRY! D8 ))
Mercury looked confused at Garmets reaction to his eating, why didn't the red ram eat much odder? Picking his fish apart like that, wasting so much. He prodded the clean fish bones, and dug a hole where he would bury them. Mercury gave Garnet a confused stare as she talked, even though he recognized some of the words, they did not make sence at all. "Besætningen? Min side? Jeg forstår ikke? Eller jo, jeg forstår at der er noget der vil kunne provokere dem til at... er... Angribe, men hvad?"(The crew? My side? I don't understand? Or yes, I understand that there's something that could make them.. er.. Attack, but what?) His voice was shaking slightly with fear, for he had understood that what Garnet had just told him felt very important.
He almost panicked as she walked away, why she did itc bothered him, but he was terrified of what could happen now without her to translate. He resisted the urge to sprint after her, as he saw the small cluster og goennecs she had joined. He swished his tail and flickered his ears nervously, the earlier aggressive signs the ram had sent him made him even more nervous. Would he attack now that they were left alone?
((The translater really messed up Garnets danish, so I chose to make him act on what was said instead of the actual message, hope it's ok))

Blossom's outburst startled Alaska a bit. The doe was usually quiet. "Well, I guess what Blossom says is true. I wouldn't be here without harems, that's certain. And it does feel nice to be wanted. I just don't entirely like the idea of giving myself away, but harems don't last forever, and their main purpose is to ensure that the herd will continue to grow." Alaska sat quietly for a moment after that, listening to what Kaze and Kila had to say about the subject. She looked up to where the battle had taken place to see Devi bow to Sam before heading off in Forest Run's direction. "Sam seems pleased. And Devarsi isn't a sore loser, I don't think," she commented. I'll get Alaska to do better at being more animalistic!

As Devi walked away, Sam sighed. He was no longer angry, but his final words had struck something else. He could have Blossom now. He turned around rapidly and saw that Blossom was behind him. "You see you see? Ol' Sam gets you out of trouble didn't he?" he asked in his normal playful voice. He noticed Blossom give him a small scowl and he coughed slightly. "Or you could be angry at me for making you be part of my harem... But look at it this way Blossom. Kids! Lots and lots of little goennecs running around! And you would make a great mother! What do you say? Let's start a harem. You could even get help to raise the young ones from others that may want to join me!" he added, enthusiasm in his voice as he pranced around in circles, making Blossom have to move around to follow him with her sight.
Blossom's anger left slowly as she saw Sam's enthusiasm at the prospect of having kids. Unlike Devi, she wasn't being treated as a collection with Sam, but as a mother to be. She smiled and nodded her head. "I will have the best little one in the whole herd," she said happily, her tail wagging lightly as she bumped her head with his. She turned to look around and saw Devi going sadly towards Forest, and her heart sank slightly. "Why is he so depressed? He only lost me..." she muttered, still resentful of the way he had asked, her ears down in thought.

Talahasi rejoined the herd his head down deep in though. He guess he would have to change his ways and prove he was strong enough to win both of his females hearts. He couldn't do that when he groomed like a female. He almost started grooming again but he stopped himself before he could. He knew if he could keep doing that then he would break his habbit and maybe win the Geo he wanted.
---------------------------------------------- Tia walked up to Forest; sunrise on her heels, but stopped when she saw the prime. He looked awfully upset and she didn't know whether to comfort him or greet him normals. She settled for greeting both him and Forest normal. " Hello Forest, hello Prime." she said calmly as she could though she was overwhelmed by shyness from being this close to the prime.

Threonine shook his head, "We'll be fine." But by the time he'd said it Garnet had already headed off to the spot his eyes had been on. His eyes, dark but with a kind of fiery discomfort deep with in them, were locked on the little group huddled around Kaze. *What's he playing at?*
Feeling that he knew, the Prince didn't hesitate to move towards the small group. He stood there, not inserting himself but clearly being 'there'. Had Kaze been acting normally he'd have stomped in, not bothered to make a challenge, and lock horns with him. But as things were, Threonine was almost confused as to what he should do. He thought about calling the ram an "overconfident doe" to see what would happen, but for now he was content to simply watch.
"What'cha doin' buddy?" Guru came to stand beside Threonine, watching the does and ram with not quite equal curiosity. "I thought you were going to accept my challenge."
"Yeah, I did say that and I will Guru. Now shush, show a little patience." Threonine flicked his tail. Guru seemed to take it as an excuse to leave and did so. The Prince's eyes remained on the little group before him.
MilkyWay walked back and forth in front of Nixx almost teasingly but with a serious air. She felt much better now that they were within the safety of the herd. "Nixx, you're a ram, you shouldn't have to ask." She said, and bowed her head in submission. (spare the details?)

Hannie watched the others, slightly curious, but mostly just bored. Their behaviors confused her greatly. The little bit she was able to remember of how the females in her herd had acted during Siv when she was a baby was much different then how these does -and rams!- were acting. She sighed slightly, eying the edge of the forest wistfully. Her time alone had made her more of a solitary creature, and although she enjoyed the company of others she usually preferred the peaceful quiet of the trees. Since there had been warnings of some "danger" though, it was probably safer to stay with the herd.

Nixx smiled and chased her around, they were a bit from the herd, but still in the outskirts they considered were still close enough to be 'there' where the herd was at instead of in the territory. They pranced in the fields, laughing and smiling at eachother, then the screen fades to black...
...the screen finally fades back in and Nixx was grooming MilkyWay. She was sleeping and Nixx looked very tired, but happiness was in his eyes from a moment he had with MilkyWay just about an hour ago. He laid his head next to her and rested his eyes and fell into between being awake and asleep.

{ Ahh, okay, Kam--sorry about that! Kaze might start a harem, though possibly keep it small, one to two, maybe three, and have a mate next Siv. I guess he is being kind of "choosy", though. XD So...say Kaze was going to challenge another ram, would they "plan" a fight, or just fight?} Kaze twitched his ears slightly, embarrassed at his reaction somewhat. Perhaps he should start a harem, though possibly keep it small--after all, this was his first Siv with the herd. Maybe next year I'll find a mate, he thought to himself, knowing that it was rare, but still hoping slightly. At least...I wouldn't treat any does in my harem like simple objects, that's for sure. He felt his mind wander, and he knew the proper thing to do would be to start a harem. Maybe he would. Maybe, he wouldn't. It was all unsure for him.
The young grey ram looked up at Alaska's answer and nodded. "No, I don't think he is, either." He paused for a moment, feeling slightly awkward at his possible question...though he was old enough to have participated in Siv for about one, maybe two years, he hadn't. Why? Because he had joined the herd just about a year before, but at Siv's end. It was hard for him to decide on what to do, but inside he knew he had to go with the flow of nature. "Alaska...?" he began, summoning up his courage. "Will...would you..." he paused, then shook his head. "Nevermind," he laughed, grinning. He swished his tail, dismissing the subject as though it was a pesky fly. Inside, he growled at himself. Come on, Kaze! You're not a nervous wreck of a goennec! But he was still unsure about having a harem, whether he truly wanted to participate in the Siv at all that year. { I'm sorry if that isn't animalistic, he's still somewhat of a young adult, I'm not sure if he will have a harem. He might, though.

Garnet watched Kaze with her deep brown eyes, turning away from the rather dejected looking Prime. She sat down and watched him and Alaska, a small smirk spreading across her face. “Kaze, you know you want to ask her,” The doe whispered into his ear. A chuckle rumbled through her, and she looked up to see the prince watching Kaze suspiciously. “Oh, don’t worry,” She giggled, “He wont steal your does…Well, he might, but you’ll get em back.” Her expression showed that she wasn’t meaning anything she said to the Prince, but knowing him, he would probably take her joke seriously. She lowered her head and pawed at the ground, feeling sort of useless. She wondered if Sec was going to ask her to be in his harem, or whether her children would be Devi’s. Both prospects excited her to no end; to have tiny kids, her kids, running around the herd made her want to dance. Her legacy would live on, and she would have contributed to the herd. Suddenly, her mind rambling ceased as a wave of hunger crashed over her. She nibbled the grass, swallowing it in a very un-‘princess’ like manner. She looked up, feeling embarrassed now, and hid her eyes underneath her auburn mane.

Alaska nodded politely as Threonine approached the group, and wondered with slight curiosity as to who the other newcomer was. She diverted her attention back to the conversation at hand. "Wait, what where you about to ask?" Alaska's ears perked slightly at the unspoken question, and she wondered what Kaze had silenced himself from asking. "Come on, tell me," the doe urged, slightly aware that maybe it was something Kaze didn't want the Prince to overhear. Threonine was standing close enough to most likely be able to hear everything said, and she didn't want to cross the Prince.

As Sam saw Blossom relax, he gave her one of his regular goofy smiles, and then he turned. "Well, I am not going to keep you all cooped up. I know you like grazing and hunting on your own. But feel free to bellow at me if you need something," he said, his relaxed views on harem life clear, as he did not like forcing females into anything.
Once he was separated from Blossom, a small black and red goennec caught his sight. She looked lost, and a little confused as to her surroundings. He closed in on her running at full speed then halting and rolling belly up in front of her, his face below hers. "Why hello there! You're Hannie, aren't cha?" he asked, his tail wagging. "What are you doing here all by your lonesome? Shouldn't you be out there making yourself known? A pretty doe like you is sure to attract some of the best males around here," he said in a non flirty voice.
The feathered goennec was never good at impressing with words, so he never tried. He preferred to use his actions to let his wants be understood. He had seen Hannie talking to the youngsters of the herd, and this pleased him, and made him wonder if she would consider being in his harem. Most females preferred more handsome stags than himself, or ones that didn't have association with humans as his bandanna clearly showed, but his nature couldn't help but fool around and talk to the different goennecs he saw standing alone. One of the reasons that he and Blossom were friends.
Blossom saw Sam prance off as he normally did and she shook her head, a small glimmer of amusement on her face. At least I know that he cares enough to let me keep my regular lifestyle she thought, then looked on past the hill, remembering how her flowering bud hunt had been struck to an end in the morning by her conversation with Talahasi, and how her bath had been stopped by Garnet.
She nodded to herself and headed to a farther stream, wanting to get the dust out of her pelt. Her being a part of a harem was no excuse for a dirty coat after all.
