Wandering aways away from the herd, Kila began to graze. Her belly had become quite large, the baby almost a burden to carry around. Though she wasn't hungry, munching the juicy shoots was a way to pass the time. And they were a nice change from the meat she had eaten all winter; something new. But even that, she grew bored of quickly. Kila folded her legs under her, the warmth of the midday sun quickly lulling her into sleep.
Kila awoke from her nap with a start, sharp pains coming from her stomach. Minutes later, a dappled kid was trying to stand. Kila watched it with wide eyes, astounded by his beauty. After a moment of staring Kila turned towards him, cleaning him up. "Hello my little Jay," Kila whispered, smiling as the small kid looked up from nursing; milk dribbling down his chin.

Roshan plodded happily through the short, springtime grass, a squirrel dangling from his jaws. He had just caught it in the forest, and thought that Stargazer might be hungry. Stargazer. She was going to have a baby. This thought caused Roshan to stop walking mid-stride. A moment later, when he realized his feet weren't moving, he put one in front of the other until his previous pace returned. He was going to be a father, a thing that the ram wasn't unhappy about, but he was still somewhat shocked. When the bright-eyed ram had finished thinking, he was pleased to see he had made it to Stargazer. Plopping down the juicy squirrel, he smiled, offering a sweet hello. Alaska lay on her side in the soft shoots of grass that had begun to grow. The grey and cream colored doe was happy for the warm sun, although she was somewhat missing the camoflauge of snow. Quite content where she was, the blue-eyed doe nibbled on some of the tender grass that was poking at her nose before dozing off once more, into a sea of dreams about her baby.

"Milky Way," He said, greeting her with the dropping of a vole. The slight growl he thought slipped her lips offended him a little bit, but didn't take it to heart, he had no clue where it came from, so it shouldn't bother him. "So are you excited to get that little one out of your stomach, finally?" He chuckled, but knew he always saw strain in her eyes or a bit of anger, truthfully wondering if she really wanted to be a mother, but thought otherwise and told himself over and over that is does.

After a good roll on the grass, Sam heard the rambunctious clamoring of T, and his eyes glinted with amusement. He considered going after the young kid after rolling himself to a proper position to stand, bits of grass clinging to his fur and mane. His long tail gave a pleasant flick as he started after him, but a shift in the wind made a scent attract him, almost by instinct. The scent was Kila's and something else. Something that made his heart skip a beat, and brought joy to his step. A loud whoop escaped his lips as he turned around, running at full speed to where the scent was coming from. Could it be? Was it time already?
The grass being pounded under his heavy steps, Sam looked around, passing pregnant does and expecting fathers, all nervous and excited. He could sympathize. Ten years had not taught him yet all that the Siv brought along, as it was always a jorney, always a new adventure. Soon enough, he found the gray doe, a kid next to her, and his ears perked up, his eyes took a gentle look to them, as he slowly approached, standing with enough distance before Kila would allow him to meet his son.
"Why I never... That arrogant little kid!" came the whining trill from the spotted doe. Dew's eyes burned with anger as she stood there. The sun had shifted position as time passed, and with it, resolution to go and pester Blossom. As she approached, she noticed Blossom was breathing heavily, and had distancing herself from the herd. The anger in her face quickly vanished and was replaced by an almost motherly look, one she rarely ever took. "Blossom?" she asked, and approached as the first time doe lay down, and noticed a small fear in her eyes, as though if something was going horribly wrong. "Blossom what is it?"
A ragged and anguished answer responded the question. 'Why won't she open her eyes?' As Dew looked to what Blossom was hiding, she noticed two clean kids, a gorgeous white kid, and a curiously small green, who seemed to not be moving. "Oh no... no... Stay here... It's going to be okay..." Dew said, trying to sound comforting. As she did, she turned around, her eyes wild as she searched for the Prime. "Devarsi!" she yelled, running as fast as she could, intent on finding the stag.
As Dew ran out, Blossom turned her desperate eyes back to the kid who would not move, would not breathe, no matter how much she coaxed her. "Come on little one... You can do it... You can wake up," she pleaded, her voice cracked at the thought of losing a child in her first birthing.

Kaze glanced up as the sun shone through the treetops, emerald eyes shining, the light dappling his rime-grey coat, and cheerful songbirds twittered and chased eachother through the air, singing with the joy and promise of spring. He paused for a moment, and closed his eyes, enjoying the warmth, then flicked his ears as he heard a rustling from the forest's undergrowth. Crouching down into the ferns and sparse brambles, he held his breath, the warm, rich scent of rabbit wafting towards him with the light breeze, ruffling his feathery white mane. Tensing his legs, he paused for a moment, pinpointing its position, then leapt forward, scrambling over a mossy rock as the hare began to flee, and dodged around a mossy treetrunk, before leaping forward and catching it between his hooves. Eyes shining, he carefully lifted it in his jaws, and shook his rime-grey fur, before perking his ears as he heard a rustle; this time only the wind whispering through the trees.
The harsh, yet breathtaking winter winds had passed, revealing a waking world...spring. It was beautiful, and an excited, joyful feeling seemed to swirl about the air, along with the warm breeze. Perking his ears, his catch in his jaws, he turned, prepared to begin hunting once more.
~
Kaze had managed to catch a somewhat small water vole and a small field mouse in addition to the rabbit during his hunt, and the pale, warm sun was shining high in the sky. He was relieved that he had managed to find enough prey; Alaska would need plenty of prey and nourishment, and he was determined that she would. He shook his head in disbelief, and happiness as he thought about what the new season meant, kids were coming. The thought took him by surprise, but not in a bad way, at all. The feathery grasses were waving gently in the breeze, the valley was lush and alive once more. Feeling excitement tingle his fur, he reared up on his hind paws and bounded across the grass, enjoying the wind, feeling as if he was flying.
Slowing, he spotted the cream and ebony shape of Alaska curled up among the sweet meadow grasses, and felt his heart soar, and bounded forward, emerald eyes shining. He always felt happiness flood him when he was with her; and was sure that even later in the year, they would still be friends. "I baw ju a abt," he mumbled around his catch, grinning, a laugh dancing in his eyes. He deposited the prey among the lush blades of grass, dotted with vibrant wildflowers, and nuzzled her creamy ear, just happy to be with her.

"Woah, woah, hold on now." Lu Ten laughed. "Talk so fast and you'll soon run out of breath. You don't want that now, do you?" He teased lightly. Lu liked Takuo. He reminded him of his own son when he had been a kid, then again, many did. Forest giggled again and brushed her tail lovingly against Lu's. "Don't tease the kid, Lu." she cooed "Hello Takuo, sounds like you've been busy lately."
Devi stopped short as he heard his name being called. He peered off in the direction of his hill and spotted Dew heading towards his from off to the side. She sounded worried about something and immediately, his mind started working. 'Who would Dew be worried about? Why would she be so eager to find me?' The answer wasn't hard to find, they spent almost every day together and who else would Dew be worried about? Blossom. He took off towards the direction he'd seen Dew come from, still gripping the rabbit tightly, though he'd forgotten he had it. He ran right past the frantic doe having blocked everything but the thought of getting to Blossom from his mind. He could smell her scent on the wind now and knew he was close. Passing a tree, he saw he lying there in the grass. She looked okay to him, but her belly was obviously less inflated than it had been earlier in the day. His heart plummeted and he absentmindedly tossed the rabbit to the side as he slowed to a stop next to the doe. beside her lay not one, but two tiny kids. One looked healthy and squirmy which forced his heart to swell with pride, but the sight of the second made him feel small and weak. It was perfectly still. "Stillborn" he murmured.

Takuo gave a little bounce as the maroon elder responded, a chuckle in his voice. Tilting his head, he perked his ebony ears, then flicked his ears considering. "Well, I guess not! That probably wouldn't be very good, 'cause then I wouldn't be able to talk alot and I'd be all...oops!" he laughed, then, as if taking the words to heart, took a deep breath, and grinned, swishing his ebony tail.
"Hi Forest!" he greeted cheerily, waving his tail, eyes shining. " I guess so! I mean the other day I went down by the river, and I was trying to find some fish, because they looked really cool when I saw them once, all silvery and stuff, but then I kinda slid and got all wet, but then after that I was exploring and Kaze showed me this really cool feather! It was bright blue and it had white and black stripes! It was so awesome! And then another time," he continued, striking golden eyes bright, "I was running by that hill over there-" he paused and gestured in the proper direction with his ears, "And I saw a turtle! It was huge. And a few days ago, I also saw this big blue butterfly, and I was chasing it, and it was really fun." He gave a little exuberant bounce as he finished, putting emphasis on the word 'huge', then remembered Lu Ten's words and shut his mouth, though he was still grinning.

As Dew saw the Prime, she stopped, noticing he was running towards her. She opened her mouth to speak, but as she did, Devarsi passed right next to her, leaving her with her mouth hanging as he rushed to his doe's aid. A vein seemed to twitch in Dew's temple as she looked back at him, her blue eyes with obvious rage in them. How dare he?! Here I am, bringing him news, and he just passes me like I am a peasant! The nerve of him! I don't care if he is Prime, I will not tolerate this! No wait... no time! Gotta find Forest!
Her mind a train-wreck of thoughts, Dew hurried off to where she had seen the elders when she was looking for Blossom. The sun was already setting, making the ominous feeling in her gut feel even more ironic with the majestic orange glow of the sky. As she approached, she saw the elders having a pleasant chat with one of the herd kids, and her ears twitched with irritation. How can they be so calm during an emergency?! she thought, obviously not considering that they had no idea of what was going on. "Forest! Forest... Blossom is in trouble... she had her babies but..." her ears flattened, trying to find the right words. "We think it is a stillborn," she finished at last, her strong gaze looking straight into those of the elder.
The sadness on Blossom's face didn't begin to reflect the pain in her heart as a wail escaped her, denial clear in her expression as she turned to the green kid, her tongue lapping the black mane, still pleading for the newborn to wake up. "It can't be... it can't be a stillborn... the other one is fine... the other one is fine..." she croaked, turning her eyes to Devi, begging for him to tell her that it was a lie with her eyes.

A smile flitted across Alaska's face as she dozed, and Kaze's voice came to her in her dreams. Blinking awake, Alaska sat up slowly, frowning inwardly at the sluggishness that the swollen belly was giving her. When she saw that Kaze was next to her, she smiled up at him. "Hey there." Her belly rumbled involuntarily at the scent of prey, and she looked innocently down at the food. "I suppose you didn't catch all of that for yourself?" the doe asked, a playful glimmer in her blue eyes.

Hearing someone coming towards her, Kila reluctently moved her gaze from Jay to that someone. "Hello Sam," Kila said quietly, a smile on her face as she nodded her head to Sam that it was alright to come closer. "His name is Jay," she continued, pride in her quiet voice as she looked from Sam back to her son. By then Jay had stopped nursing; and was turned so that he was looking at Sam, his head titled slightly.

Sam's chest puffed with pride. The small goennec looked up at him as he approached, and his eyes glinted with happiness to see a healthy young boy. Jay... he thought, looking at the boy as his tail gave a small flicker. The boy seemed to have inherited his long tail, and some feathering around the hooves. A strange dapple covered his body, making it look as though if sunshine were filtering through his pelt.
He nodded and turned his head to look at Kila, obvious pride in his face, his goofy grin in place as he spoke. "He is a handsome boy. Jay, huh? A simple name. That is good. A true stag needs not impress with name, but with action," he said, his eyes glistening with mischief as he turned back down to the kid and dipped his head to touch noses with him.
"You are the first kid to be born this season my little Jay. You will have a lot of fun when the hills are filled with others to play with," he said, his ears perked up and twitching with excitement. Kila had joined his harem rather late. He was amazed that the doe had had a child so early into the birthing season, and he was happy to see there were no complications with him as the bright eyes of the youth stared right back at him.

Stargazer seemed to come back to reality from her place of 'deep thoughts'. For half a second she seemed to look at Roshan blankly, then recognition filled her eyes. She returned the smile and bent her head slightly to sniff the squirrel. It smelled good, making her mouth water. Taking all things into account, it had been a rather pleasant day, nice and sunny, so warm... It was a welcome relief from the cold black nights they'd experianced during the winter, though at least it hadn't been a bad one. She hated to think what would have happened if it had gotten too cold. Just as she was about to take a bite though, tension seemed to fill the air from somewhere within the herd. She lifted her head in confusion, looking around for the source. Not seeing anything out of the ordinary from where she was standing, the doe turned back. However, she could not bring herself to eat the squirrel just yet, "Roshan... Have you eaten?"
Milky Way let out a good natured snort, "I suppose you could say that." She blinked slowly, taking her time to draw in a long breath. She shifted her feet, trying to find the most comfortable standing position, and with a swish of her tail, realized yet again that it wasn't worth the effort. "No one told me these little ones were so heavy." She teased, "I think I'll be much happier when the kid can walk on it's own." She tripped the vole by the foot with her teeth and bit down until the leg broke off cleanly. She stood chewing it, and tilted her head slightly, as if asking if anything unusual had happened earlier in the day.

Talahasi looked a Lavantia who was heavy with kid, and smiled to himself. He knew the kid would be good looking no matter who coleration it took on. He looked around for dew as well but did not see her. 'Must be with her friends.' he thought and bent down to graze. A flash of blue caught his eyes as Sunrise raced past to Lavantia's side. He chuckle then thought he should go and find Lavantia and Dews supper. They would need all the meat they could get soon.

Anda stood a ways from the others, clinging to the shadows. She layed her ears back, in a mood. She had been feeling worse and worse for the past few months. And soon, it would be her least favorite time of the year: when the new kids came. She felt immense jealousy as she looked at the does' heavy stomachs, while her own contained no kid. She glared at them, but stopped after a moment; It wasn't their fault that they were to have kids and she wasn't. She stared at her hooves, trying to think about something else but not succeeding.
((Sorry for her not being more involved. Dx I can't really do that without going against her normal personality.

Roshan smiled at Stargazer, warmth filling the expression and turning the usual, happy smile into something that was more. "When I was hunting, I managed to find a berry bush, and filled up on those. Don't worry, I'm fine for at least a while." The young ram had just finished his reply when he noticed something. His ears pricked up, and he stood still, a light breeze being the only thing making his wisps of fur move. "Did you hear that? I think something might be wrong. I dunno. It just got... uncomfortable. Maybe it's just me."

"No, not all of it," he replied, a laugh dancing in his deep emerald eyes. "Actually, it's all for you," he said, grinning. He gently leaned forward and nudged the rabbit closer, inviting her to eat. He hadn't caught any prey for himself that while he had been out huntin, but he was determined that Alaska got the nutrition that she needed. After all, he had found some sweet meadow grasses when he was out hunting, along with a few newly-grown blackberries, and that was enough to sustain him for the morning. Kaze flicked his ebony ears, then grinned.
"How are you?" he asked, swishing his tail, feeling the light breeze ruffle his mane, the last, pale sunlight dappling his rime-grey pelt. He smiled back at her and nuzzled her ear; nodding, words couldn't describe his feelings. Being with her always flooded him with happiness, as if he could fly.
"Okay...if you insist," he laughed, grinning, and he took a somewhat-small bite from the field mouse, but didn't touch the rabbit or vole, making sure there was plenty left for her. He grinned, eyes shining with a laugh, then looked up for a moment, and watched the sky splash with streaks of pink and gold, the pale, red sun dipping below the horizon. The air twisted and seemed to dance about the valley, filled with joy, ruffling his feathery white mane. He closed his vibrant green eyes, anjoying the tickle of the wind on his pelt, and listened to the melodious ruffle of the trees all around, the wildflowers swaying lazily in the wind.

Stargazer was going to offer to share anyway, but Roshan's comment interested her. So he heard it too. It wasn't loud, not like a wail, almost like a distressed whisper in the wind. Something was definately wrong, but she didn't understand what it was. Certainly not an attack, some sort of alarm would surely have been sounded by now if a bear had attacked or another herd had suddenly come. She shook her head, "No, I heard it too." Suddenly it occured to her that this was indeed the season when kids had been born. Perhaps something related to that had happened. Perhaps one of the kids had been born, but then, why did it seem like something was wrong? Wouldn't there be happiness at the birth of new kids? "Do you think we should go see what's happened?" Stargazer asked Roshan, now very curious.
As Milky Way was chewing on a piece of vole, she suddenly spit it out. The meat tasted aweful, but it hadn't just moments before. Then her stomach started hurting, an aweful pain, Milky Way rarely felt pain, and that was usually just the pain of a thorn in her back foot. No, this was real pain. But she didn't make any noise, no sound. Before long, there lay at her feet a brand new kid, brown furred with starry speckles and a few red feathers. Milky Way beamed with pride, though she was very tired. Free. She was free now. How happy she was, particularly to see that the kid had horns, and was a doe. "You're perfect." Milky Way whispered, nuzzling the kid, "My little Riall."

Nixx was wide-eyed and frozen in the process of his new daughter being born and a few moments after. It had gone by so fast, yet so perfect. She was so delicate and small. Her proportions were a little off, legs being a bit short, but nothing that would ruin her innocent image. The feathers that were placed on her shoulders and hips were a bit damp, but he knew they would soon dry and be as beautiful as his[he's not bragging, just thinking self-consciously]. He bent down to sniff his daughter. She was healthy and strong, no smell of death or sickness was there. This was a miracle to Nixx, as he feared she would be deformed or very sick because of his rare genes. "She's gorgeous."

Kila nodded placidly at Sam’s remarks, her own pride obvious in her every movement. “I’m sure he will be strong like you,” Kila said happily, watching Jay stretch his neck to snuffle at the grass. “He looks quite like you,” she added as Sam touched noses with her little Jay. Kila was glad that the excitement of having a kid still surrounded her, because if it didn’t she would be fast asleep.
Kila watched Jay look up at Sam as he heard his name, surprised that he had learned it so quickly. The average-sized kid took a step towards Sam to touch his nose as Sam had just done to him. Finding that he couldn’t reach a huffy sound escaped Jay’s mouth as he tottered back towards Kila. She stood with an amused expression on her face, thinking about the months of silly behavior to come.

Alaska tipped her head up, lightly nuzzling Kaze's chest with the top of her head. Moving so that she had her hind legs tucked beneath her, and her front legs extended, she took a bite of the rabbit. The warm meat filled her mouth, and she chewed contentedly for a moment before coming back to reality. "I'm doing fine, really. Although, the baby has been moving around a lot. I think it may be due anytime in the next few days." Blinking, the doe looked up at Kaze with large blue eyes. "Come sit down," she said, "And have at least a bite to eat. What with the vole, mouse, and rabbit, I'm sure there's plenty to share." Roshan considered the question for a moment before answering. "I think we should go see what's wrong, but we might want to stay back a ways to assess the situation before getting a closer look." The ram frowned, seeing the situation in the eyes of the troubled young ram who had been taught that anything and everything could be a trap. He had thought that if there was danger, he would keep Stargazer as far as possible. Inwardly rolling his eyes, Roshan told himself to knock it off.
