Knowing that the doe was probably tired, Sam looked at his son one last time, his eyes glowing, before turning to look at Kila. "I should probably let you two rest, you must be exhausted. Do try to graze some more before you fall asleep, and come closer to the herd. I would hate to see anything bad happen to either of you," he said, his voice honest and his eyes showing concern. He knew that Kila was not one of the most social does in the herd, but a newborn kid was easy prey for those who fed on goennecs, and birthing season always seemed to attract them.
As he wandered out back into the mists of the herd, his excitement was obvious, and he looked around for Devi, his old friend, to let him know how his first son had just been born. He wanted the whole herd to know, but somehow, Devi always seemed to find out first. As he turned his gaze towards the hill Devi frequented, he realized that Forest and Lu Ten were there, with Dew talking to the elder doe. His ear flicked with curiosity. Well that's weird... Where's Devi? he wondered, noticing the dark mood in which Dew seemed to be in.
Eyes searching for Devi, his mind quickly left Dew and the elders when he spotted a familiar brown pelt by the river, head down drinking water. A wide grin spread on the gray ram's face, and he spread his legs open, readying for a charge. Sam's paws dragged dirt from under them as he shifted them, redying himself for the hit he was about to make. A loud and booming roar escaped him as he ran with all the speed he could muster, and he felt his horns connecting with the bobtailed ram's rear, ending with a splash as the other fell into the stream. "Hiya Prodigy!" he boomed, a wide grin on his face as he looked down at the sopping wet ram.

Milky Way beamed, though a little shyly. It was strange to see something lay before her that was... related to her. And not the way Stargazer was. She loved her twin, but grudgingly, it seemed like the white maned Goennec she called her sister was always out to get her, no doubt she'd have something to say about her being Nixx's mate rather than just a harem doe, and Riall as well. In fact, Milky Way was surprised she hadn't said anything already, but figured it was because of the Siv, once Stargazer's kid had been born... "Yes, she is." Milky Way nodded in agreement, licking the dampness from the little female's feathers until they were red and fluffy, though still darker than Nixx's. "I don't think we'll need to worry a bit about her future." She commented cheerfully, referring to the face markings which made the little female's blue eyes stand out, amongst other things. She nudged Riall, urging her to stand up.
Under normal circumstances, Stargazer might have taken offense at the mere mention of staying out of danger. It wasn't that she was overly self confident, or took it as meaning she didn't know better. No, Stargazer just liked looking for excuses to slam her foot in someone's mouth. Not Roshan though, she liked him. His youth and mysterious wisedom captivated her, she was curious to see how high he would reach within the herd. So, she didn't even seem to notice his comment, and continued forward, eyes shining in curiosity. As they approached the place where the disturbance seemed to be coming from, or rather, the place hidden by a looming hill, she slowed down. "Roshan, it must be just there. The suspense is killing me! Can we have a look, if we're quiet?" She asked, half way sounding like a kid herself as she shuffled her feet.

"Yes, she is gorgeous and she won't have any problems finding herself into a herd with those bright, blue eyes." He had to admit, his daughter was flat out gorgeous. Her red definitely brought out her eyes that shone like diamonds and her fur was soft and shiny. He nudged her, and her eyes fluttered open and her lips parted wide to stifle a yawn. [/color] Riall tilted her head at the tall ram. She was sure what to say to him, or how to, so she just bleated at him, hoping it would be a good enough response back. The smile on Forest's face faded quickly as she looked from the young kid to the frantic Doe. It was so unlike her to act so worried about someone other than herself. It must be serious. She was suddenly very frightened herself. Devarsi had an excellent territory and had gone above and beyond to care for his does as some rams do. It was unlikely to be simple malnutrition. She turned her saddened eyes on Lu who replied with just a simple, serious nod of the head, telling her silently that she should go help. As quickly as she could, she scrambled to her feet. "Lead the way Dew."
Devi didn't know what to say. Blossom seemed inconsolable in her sorrow and words just didn't seem to cut it. Her purple eyes met his and he suddenly felt the pain flowing from them. He leaned forward and pressed his horns and nose to hers gently, hoping the simple gesture would be of some comfort to her.
Endie looked up from her grazing at hearing the commotion across the feild. Even in her relaxation, she was so wired for reacting to the slightest disturbence that even the faint sounds of distress were loud enough to draw her attention. The problem didn't seem to be a herd issue so she chose to let it go and continue grazing, though she kept one ear cocked towards the far side. After a while, she'd filled her belly and she began to feel the tiny life inside her settling as if it knew the sun was setting. Her heart fluttered and she cooed softly to her swollen sides as she waddled her wa towards the softer grasses to find a good place to bad down for the night.

As Forest told her to lead the way, Dew merely nodded and turned around. Knowing the elder could not keep the brisk pace she wished to move in, she slowed down her frantic movements and led the way to where the Prime and Blossom lay, Blossom still on the ground, sadness clear in her eyes and denial looking as though it was about to burst through, something common in does that had a stillborn. She had never seen a pair of twins be born into the herd, so this time it was different. If Blossom fell into the pit of despair most does did, her other kid would die. She couldn't let this happen, and with this in mind, she merely nodded her head to where the two were, not sure if she dared approach more or not.
Feeling Devi's horns and nose press against hers, she knew that there was no answer he could give that would make her feel better. A small bleat escaped the white kid as he whimpered for milk, pressing close to his mother, but Blossom could barely feel him. What was wrong with her? Why had her baby been born dead? She knew she had been feeling a little strange, weak, but she didn't think it would be so bad.
She lowered her head and lay it on the grass, her body bent so her nose touched the unmoving body of the second, smallest kid in her litter. She had killed her first child before it had even been born. How could she possibly be fit to raise the one that was still alive? Footsteps approached, and she raised her head slightly, only to see Forest approaching them, Dew a little behind, a grave look on both of the does. Of course! Forest will know what to do! Maybe she can still be saved came the false hope that tended to encompass those who had birthed death.

Forest silently cursed her stiff joints, even as she drew up next to the white doe and prime. She was surprised to she two small kids next to her, though Dew had said that Blossom had had her babies. She studied the two carefully. First the white one. She used her nose to gently prod it. It was a little boy, soft and warm. He seemed perfectly fine. She gave him a quick lick on the ear beore moving on the the greenish kid. This one was a girl, but unlike her brother, she wasn't showing any signs of healthy life. She wasn't even warm, while not cold, she certainly wasn't warm enough. Forest started panicing a little on the inside. "Warm her up Blossom, she's too cold."
Devi moved over to let Forest in. He watched as the elder examined Blossom's kids, his kids, his first as Prime and her first in life. He felt a strange tenderness for the little white one. He stepped around to where the kid was crying and nuzzled his nose into the kid's fur trying to warm and comfort the squirming newborn.

Takuo beamed as Forest smiled at him, and he shifted his front paws eagerly, his striking golden eyes shining. "Yeah! And then, after that-" the young kid's words trailed off, and cocked his head, then whipped around as he heard another voice, belonging to a brown and white doe, who he knew to be Dew, her tone sounding clouded with panic. "Huh?" he murmured, flicking his ears, confused; his eyes glinting with curiousity. He was about to follow, and lifted a paw to do so, then hesitated and turned back to Lu Ten, confusion and worry drifting across his eyes. "What's going on? Why was Dew all upset and why did Forest just leave?" He dropped his ebony-furred paw to the ground once more, feeling his fur prickle with confusion. What's happening?

Lu watched solomnly as his Forest tottled off with the worried younger doe. "Seems there's some trouble with one of Devarsi's does. Forest and Devi are very close, not to mention Forest would have the best experiance an knowledge for this sort of thing." He pulled himself up and, not wanting to worry the kid, smiled mischeviously and started off toawrds the river. "Come with me, Takuo, I know a good place to play."

T's eyes stretched wide with surprise, a somewhat frightened look entering his deep golden eyes. He wasn't sure what was wrong, that was true, but it sounded scary to him--that's what he did know. He nodded, ears slightly flat, and glanced down at the ground for a moment, pawing at a feathery strand of grass. After a moment, he pricked his ears curiously as the elder began to speak once more. "Really? Where?" Takuo's head shot up as he spoke, and he scrambled up, and gave a little, excited bounce, his previous worries forgotten. His previously-clouded eyes now shone with excitement, and he grinned, then pawed at the air and leapt after him, eager to explore.

((I opened Ander's eyes. Hope that's not a problem. I can edit if they take longer.))
Eyes bright with hope, Blossom pulled the green girl towards her, then proceeded to licking her gently, hoping that each lick would trigger some sort of movement on the kid. Her tongue began to feel dry after a while, the effort of licking the kid noticeable, as each stroke she gave became stronger and more determined, willing the little one to do something, anything at all. Once the fur of the young one was damp, she realized that warmth had not encompassed the body, and if possible, she was a tad colder than she had been when she started. The horror that had left her eyes for that brief moment of hope now returned, her face contorted. "I'm sorry..." she muttered, looking at the body, half to Devi for not giving him a good child, half to the child for failing to even keeping her alive the second she was born. "Maybe I'm just not meant to have kids..."
"Don't say that..." came the harsh voice of the spotted doe. Dew knew that look, and it was as she feared. The lost of one child seemed to make her unable to realize that there was still another who needed her. "Forest... is there anything you can do?" she asked, turning to the elder with a questioning look on her face. "Anything any of us can do?"
A small squeak escaped the white body as he felt a warm and wet touch, unknowing that his father was nuzzling him, he turned around belly up, his eyes still closed, and he pawed at the air in front of him, a squeak of delight escaping him. However, his craving for milk was not gone. A small sneeze escaped him as his father's goatee rubbed against his nose, and his eyes parted lightly, revealing a bright pink color as the child looked up at the black stag with the crimson horns. He tilted his head, curious. A small bleat escaped him, and he pawed with more certainty the air, trying to get his father's goatee, which looked delicious at that moment.

(Nah, it's fine. Goennecs, like many wild ungulates need to be functioning quickly as they are prey animals and need to be able to flee from danger. x3)
"Ah-ah-ah, it's a secret. You'll see when we get there." He pranced off ahead. He could see Sam a little ways away. He seemed to be in a playful mood, teasing another ram, and he figured T might appreciate some light rough-housing with a few of the older rams. He decided to be a bit more devious with their approach than a simple head-on hello so he headed towards the nearest tree instead.
Forest watched as Blossom desperately tried to warm the newborn, but her heart dropped with ever passing moment that the young one didn't stir. She was silent at first, but at Dew's prompting, she was forced to say it. "I'm afraid she's a stillborn, Blossom . . . It's nothing you did and I don't think you could have done anything to save her, it just happens sometimes." She said softly, swaying uneasily as she watched the sad scene.
Devi's one track mind kicked in once again and suddenly, he forgot all about Blossom and their other kid. All he could see was his son, his beautiful, healthy son. 'He'll be such a heartbreaker when he grows.' Devi flinched slightly at the sneeze, but giggled to himself at how he grabbed at his goatee.

"A secret?" T echoed, a mystified look entering his striking golden eyes as he bounded after him, giving an eager, exuberant bounce. "I love secrets! At least, most secrets, 'cause some are too secretive and stuff, I guess!" he added, grinning. He spotted a butterfly a few feet a way from them and paused, then crouched down between the feathery grass, tail swishing. He held his breath, preparing to dab playfully at it with a front paw, then pricked his ears as he heard Lu Ten prance away, and instead scrambled up, and leapt forward to catch up. He tripped slightly as he scrambled over a large root, then, giggling, hurried to join Lu Ten. "What is it?" he whispered, careful to keep his voice low as he crept up beside the elder, who was standing behind a large, sturdy oak. He shook his fur as a leaf gently drifted down from the branches, stifling a giggle in his attempts to stay quiet. Curiousity pricking at his ears, he cautiously peered around the maroon ram, squinting his eyes in attempt to see better in the fading light, grinning.

Roshan walked silently towards the edge of the grassy hill, peering down as Stargazer spoke. When she finished, he peered over his shoulder at the white-maned doe who had won his heart. He smiled softly, feeling heat rush to his cheeks. "Yeah, we can go take a look." He began to stroll forwards slowly, keeping a pace he knew Stargazer would be able to keep up with. After a moment of walking, he turned to look at her again. "Sorry about that, earlier. It's just... I dunno. I can be a bit overprotective, I guess." He felt a bit of anger at himself for letting his old instincts take over, but he easily turned his emotions to those of happier thoughts, hoping that everything would turn out for the better. Kaze smiled back at her response and nuzzled her ear; grinning, words couldn't describe his feelings. Being with her always flooded him with happiness, as if he could fly. "Okay...if you insist," he laughed, grinning, and he took a somewhat-small bite from the field mouse, but didn't touch the rabbit or vole, making sure there was plenty left for her. He grinned, eyes shining with a laugh, then looked up for a moment, and watched the sky splash with streaks of pink and gold, the pale, red sun dipping below the horizon. The air twisted and seemed to dance about the valley, filled with joy, ruffling his feathery white mane. He closed his vibrant green eyes, anjoying the tickle of the wind on his pelt, and listened to the melodious ruffle of the trees all around, the wildflowers swaying lazily in the wind.

Warmth and contentment filled the cream and gray doe as she sat next to Kaze. She nudged the rest of the field mouse over to the ram, indicating that it was for him, and pulled the vole closer with her paw. After taking a few bites, she felt her thoughts begin to drift. Oh, how she never thought that she would find someone like Kaze. The ram was such a good friend, possibly her best, if one didn't include Roshan. She knew that she would try to be friends with him even after all of this was over, and after the birth of their child. "I wonder if any others have had theirs yet," Alaska commented, thinking. "I know there has been at least one, maybe two. But I don't know their names or anything. After we eat, we should go explore, see who has been born." Alaska laughed at her now pitiful description of explore. Once, it would've meant going on long-distance walks or runs, but now it merely meant padding through the herd.

"Careful, T, don't let 'em hear you. " Lu whispered laughingly "We're going to see if we can get Sam into the water as well." He peered around the large trunk, making sure to stay out of sight. Sam was big, but so was he and the large gray ram didn't seem to be paying much attention to what was behind him. 'Shouldn't be too hard.'
Endie hadn't been asleep for too long when a not-so gentile stirring in her belly awoke her. Her sleepiness masked the realization of what it was that woke her. She looked up, expecting to see the sun rising, but all she could see was the falling darkness and the first stars just begining to shine. Her swollen sides contracted painfully and she suddenly realized why. Her soon-to-be-born kid kicked sharply. She grunted and gritted her teeth, determinded to get this part over with quickly.

A stillborn... Why? Why would she be born like this? Blossom's brain was overloading with sad thoughts as she nudged the baby lightly with her nose. Heartbroken, she sighed, and slowly rested her head on top of the still, damp body of the girl.
Dew's ears flattened sadly. She was afraid that it was indeed a stillborn. However, after all that prodding, there was just no way that the baby was alive. Her head still poking out from inbetween her mother's legs, she looked as though if she were only sleeping. "I'm sorry Blossom," she muttered sadly, laying next to the younger doe for comfort.
The words had not come out of the spotted one's mouth when something stirred inside the maroon horned girl. A small bristle of her mane made the weight that had been on top of it suddenly vanish as the doe that smelled motherly and soft, almost like a flower, although she could not yet identify the smell, lifted her head from on top of her in surprise. Eyes as pink as her brother's slowly opened, and a small, high squeak escaped her as she looked up at the purple eyes that met her. This place was so different from the place she had just been in, so much warmer and so much more full of emotion. A happy squeak escaped the girl as she looked up at her mother, her black mane still glistening and wet, her ears perked up as she tried to reach the green nose that hovered above her.
Laughter seemed to shine on the white face as he raised his neck and grabbed the goatee with his tiny teeth, then quickly spat it out, a look of disgust on his face. A mumble and another sneeze escaped him as he turned around, no longer interested in the fur floating above him, wanting to see his surroundings, and wanting to see the source of the delicious smell he kept sensing. As he turned, he saw a body as white as his looking down at something inbetween it's paws. He squeaked unhappily, wanting to know how to get to that which he knew by instinct would fill his body. He turned his head to look at the black male again and gave a dignified squeak, almost looking as though if he was complaining that he was not being paid attention to in his time of hunger.

Forest looked on in astonishment as the stillborn began to move and squeek. "Well, would you look at that . . ." The kid had been still for too long for it to possibly still be alive, but she was too stunned and happy to think too much about it. Surely Blossom must have done something wonderful here tonight.
"Don't worry, son, she won't forget about you. You'll get your meal soon enough." The thought reminded him of why he was here in the first place and he shifted his gaze to the bundle Blossom was cradling. He was shocked to see it moving. "Lookie there, son, Blossom's a good mommy."

Milky Way grunted as if in approval. Her mouth parted in a wide yawn and she eased herself to the ground slowly, her black fur ruffling slightly. She was too tired to smother Riall with love, and wasn't sure she even knew how. *But that,* She thought, watching as the young doe tried interacting with her father, *Is one of the many good things about having a mate.* Her tongue swiped over her nose as she lay her head on her hooves, watching with one eye open while she tried to get at least a little bit of rest. Milky Way did not normally have any problems with physical exhaustion, though the strange internal pain she'd just endured would take a little time to recover from. *At least that's over.* She thought, her tail twitching as she rolled into a light doze.
Stargazer snorted in amusement, swishing her white tail, "Don't be sorry." She said, "There are plenty of things that would be worse than being protective." She turned her head to one side, and then the other, as if looking for something that wasn't there. She let out a tiny sigh, and started walking forward again, looking determined, "I'll do my best to keep up, but if we keep walking like this it'll be nightfall before we get anywhere." Her smile showed that this was to be taken lightly, though she was becoming frustrated that she couldn't seem to go much faster.

Dew blinked, equally surprised by the sudden revival of the young stillborn. One second ago, the small female had been growing colder by the moment, and now, the lively shine in her eyes confused her immensely. A warm, motherly glow filled the older doe's eyes as she saw the bleating kid, and then she turned to another bleating sound, and saw the boy looking annoyed at being ignored. "Remember you have two kids to take care of now. I think your boy wishes for some milk now, and you should probably feed the girl as well."
Dew noticed the warm glow on Blossom's eyes, a mixture of relief and happiness on her face. Slowly getting up, Dew noticed how hard it was to do so, and she realized that she had been moving around quite a lot with how heavy her belly was. It amazed her she had been so fast. She turned around to the young mother as she nursed her two kids, and she tilted her head curiously. "Any names for them yet?"
Blossom nuzzled both babies as they got close to her and began to nurse while she lay down, exhausted after birthing twice. She head Dew speaking and she looked up, noticing the female wasn't being her usual bickering self, which was a welcome relief. Names... she thought, then looked back at them, seeing how perfect they both were, even the male with his abnormal mane color. "Her name is Sihir, and he is Ander," she answered, no doubt in her voice that those were the names of her children.
